ok, my tuppence worth;

when i first fitted mine neither worked, fitted either way round. i took them to work and proved they were ok using a power supply, as the oem lamps worked this suggested it was the led/lamp holder combination that was the problem.

hi-res of replacement led opposite sides are different;

you maybe cannot tell from the angle of the photo but the solder pads are extremely flat. with this in mind now look at the contacts in the lamp holder;

its a bit difficult to tell but the copper contacts are closer together in profile at the entrance to the holder. as the led is pushed in it opens the flatter area of the contacts further and relies on the small area towards the entrance to make the circuit. if the led is pushed in too far it will rest on the fibreglass instead of the solder pads. i tried not pushing the leds fully home but this didnt work either.

rather than try to 'modify' the lamp holder in case i had to resort to putting the originals back in i simply put an extra blob of solder on the solder pads.

once these were shoved in the holder as far as the blobs would allow, voila;

i blame the lamp holders for the problems everyones having. a quick blobof solder looks like itll do the trick.

Hi chris,
I was for soldering blobs on the contacts to get a better contact as you quite rightly have shown with your pictures. Unfortunately, one of my bulbs is faulty and am getting a set of replacements sorted out. Hopefully autobulbs will have replied to my email by now.

Apparently not. :D

But my bulb holders are black and seem to have better shaped contacts in than in Chris's pics, if I recall correctly... so maybe it's something Seat/VAG have improved quietly for recent cars?

in fairness to the lamp holders they are designed to hold wedge type lamps which are, well, wedge shaped.
as others have said, not too shabby for under £20.

I don't seem to be able to find these LED's on the autobulb's website? Wonder if they have pulled them for a slight modification?

got mine working after a bit of faffing. Basically didnt push the bulb all the way in so the bottom pad was just in the top part of the connector and they worked straight away. Looks good and they should be far enough in to not fall out due to vibration.

It would be a nightmare of a job if the bulbs fell into the light unit. So whats the general opinion on fitting the bulbs? Vertically or horizontally? Which way looks or performs the best?
