LED sidelights that WORK

Poverty

maybe leave them in the car for ages with the lights turned on? Maybe the pcb in the bulbs need to "learn" what resistance it needs to throw at the car?

They work

3rd and last update.

ok fiddlly as hell but they do work. Few simple steps to help you alone

Replace one at a time. Leaving other original bulb in place.

When replacing the bulb disconnect the connecter which is going back to headlight surround (could be earth or something. )

Turn ignition on and look for errors. Try side lgihts.

If it does not light, turn off ignition and turn LED bulb round the other way(they will only work in one way. Again disconnect other cable from headlight surround.

Remove key for 5 sec. insert key and turn ignition on. Now you should see one side working. repeat for other.

As I said its pain in ass, but only way to do it. Always remove that 2nd cable that goes to headlight surround. That has to have something to do with canbus. Basic write up but should get you guys up and working. :funk:

Cheers

When you pull the sidelights out. They will be in a small plastic black cover. Follow the wires that are connected to that. One will be attached to a slide clip connection. This can be pulled off. Always replace the connection once blubs are fitted

They are LED's so they are polarity sensitive, have you turned them round 90 degrees?

They are a b1tch to do.

As I said leave one normal bulb in. Disconnect little cable from housing on the side your replacing. Connect LED, connect cable. Make sure ignition is OFF. Test lights. Try key out of ignition then back in and ignition on. If error. keys out, wire off, turn lights around and test. This will definitly work. Make sure other light stays in. Also even with error, the LED should light. The error message will only go when both lights are in place. Stick with it mate. Well worth it. Ultra bright

Yes, I'm having problems too. When I went out to put in the other bulb on Friday night, I was getting nowhere fast. The original bulb was working fine but could I get the other to work [:@] Even if I swapped them about, only one of the bulbs would work. Weather has been a bit p*ss here and I was getting wet so i've given up for now and will have another go on Tuesday, my day off. I DID have both bulbs working, but when I put the connector back into the housing, off it went, but NO BULB ERROR. On looking closer at the bulbs, there is some copper showing on the edge of the pcb's. I'm wondering if this is causing a problem. The pcb's are multi layer. There is copper on the inside as well as on the outside. I have special heat resistant insulating tape (Kapton) which i'm gonna cut into strips and put round the outside edge to see if it helps. Will keep you posted. I still think the bulbs work though. The design of the connectors in the Leon doesn't help though. I'll get a couple of photos up to try and show you all what I mean. The weather is holding me up though for trying out stuff. Will keep you posted

Mate cant belive it. It took lots of messing and it definitly did work. Have you not even got one side to work ???

I'm sorry to read of all the trouble you've been having but it's kind of a relief as I thought my problems were just due to me being an incompetent newbie! ;)

To rule out bad connections, plug the normal bulb back in when the bulb holder is already pulled out - I found the normal bulbs light consistently (certainly after you turn the ignition key off-on and then turn the headlights on). Once you have the old bulb lighting OK, turn the lights off and swap in the LED one. Then turn the key off-on and put the headlights on again. If you get nothing, turn off the lights and ignition and turn the LED module 180 degrees, to change the polarity.
It's a bit of a faff but the above worked for me after 15 mins or so of trial and error.

I haven't got HIDs (OE or not) so my headlights suddenly look rather orange next to these... maybe one of those nice HIDS4U reflector kits is in order..?

I dont have HIDs either. But bought new xenon lights. Slightly blue light off them so it doesnt look to bad. Got to love toe LED side lights. They look amazing. Enjoying yours ??

I'm enjoying mine as far as that's possible, yup. I got quite excited when they first lit up but then last night I caught myself wondering if I should try turning them 90degrees in the mount to see if that looked better... and thought better of it and went off to do something more productive! ;)
