Time for an update on the past months ongoings
Ring trip prep continued tieing up a few loose ends such as ripping out the headlining, sorting the lack of speado, extending the loom for the lambda where it was too short and having the exhaust blow sorted
Picked up a set of Performance Trim doorcards at a very good price with all the fittings, possibly one of the most akward task I've done on the car especially as I had to unbolt the drivers seat and scrunch my heavy frame arond the cage to do the rear cards - muchos swearing! Also did some weighing, a stock doorcard weighs around 2.6kg compaired to the carbon panel thats 1.2kg. Quite a difference!
Also did a bit of pissing about in the engine bay, aquirred some ally foil tape and fancied a bit of bling, fitted bonnet lifters so save me carrying the bonnet stay in back and changed the camcover to match the rest of the orange goings on. Oil & filter change too, stuck some Motul 300v oil in it which smells rather nice
Also discovering that vibration is the enemy. Certain fixings around the engine have been working loose and upon changing the oil the sandwich take off plate on the filter housing for the oil cooler had worked loose. Will have to keep checking everything periodically. I also reverted the front engine mount back to the VT one, the solid mount I had fitted caused the exhaust to knock under harsh accelleration and cause an unpleasent vibration in the cabin at high revs.
Now with the orange theme on the 5 spoke MO's thanks to Drue1
The SEAT european meet & trip to the ring came & went not without issues...
The random inability of the ickle battery to hold a charge straight after a 100odd mile cruise, thankfully I had jump leads and the road trip was decending into somthing scripted out of Top Gear!
Made it to the 'Ring
, quite a milestone in many ways. Completed 1 lap and forgot what a mega piece of tarmac it is and jokingly said it could break down - never a true word spoken in jest it would prove later
2nd lap was a different story..... was going fine until Exmuhle bridge where it then suddenly decided to misfire and stutter under WOT......shite.......... not good, backed off and a quick glance to the instruments and the lights were dim and no milage/MFA was being displayed.....alternator had copped it
With the car still going I carried on and it got as far as Schwalbenshwanz (towards end of lap) before it stopped. Bugger. Pretty impressed with the efficiency of the extraction of the the dead car from the circuit, was off the circuit within 15-20 minutes.
Was taken to Autohaus Bongard in Adenau where there was an impressive collection of bent vehicles. Once the small matter circumventing the 185 euro recovery due to the lack of ADAC cover on my part was gotten around, Bongard kindly arranged a nice ADAC yellow truck to take the car back to our villa, really helpful considering my complete lack of German and that I had duped them with sombody elses membership!
