Good to see you are still getting on with your car - solid engine mounts are a really bad idea IMO on cars that spend much time on public roads - I reckon the extra vibration has busted your alternator - but the other possibility is it getting very hot from reduced cooling because of your large airbox - the extra vibration could also have led to the powersteering belt being thrown off - there is a double ended bolt that holds the front of the bracket on the side of the engine that is very susceptible to coming loose, if it comes loose, the belt comes off. Have solved it on mine with a crinkle washer and a K-nut. Not come off since.

Dome filters are the way to go - simple and effective as long as they are used with a dropped rad and some cold air fences

Re front wings - I have a pair of genuine steel F2 front wings now that I have been considering getting moulds made from - fancy splitting the costs? I also have genuine kit car bumpers that could also be moulded to go with the wings......currently searching for some rear arches to complete the set, have fouind some GRP ones already but they are in Germany and would be no use to you for a cordy, unless they could be used as a starting point or part used in some way

I fitted the solid front mount to as engine movement was cited to causing a suspect blow on the newly fitted manifold. Total waste of time as it caused the exhaust to knock like a good'un under spirited acceleration and have had the exhaust looked at again, did the trip with no probs so far.
First thing I did was check all the alty brackets and were tight, however I think the belt has stretched as the adjustment was wound all the way to the max. Bizzare. Airbox itself has cracked in a few places in the tin work, another motive for getting rid of it - oh well I gave it a good go!

Going with a no nononse approach with the filter, nice big tall one with long trumpets and will end up cutting a hole in the bonnet for it to poke through:D will end up covering the hole wth somthing half suitable and not so gash looking........

I would certainly consider the wings, not sure about the bumper was going to stretch the original one. any idea what the moulds are going to cost and min quantitys? Not thought about the back arches as yet but, again depending on costs.

One more thing, do I recall correctly that your Radtec Rad developed a leak at some stage? Mines weaping a little...

how do you know you need trumpets that long? your choice obviously but just wondered why you want to cut a hole in the bonnet if there's no need.....

the original bumper will stretch - mines been like that for a few yrs now - but the fit isn't exactly great and the paint cracks eventually - the kit car bumper looks well good - fitting it presently so will have some pics in the near future

Everyone I have spoken to so far wants about £500 per mould, and then wings start at about £100 apiece depending on what they are made of and the number of layers (strength/lightness to be considered, glass / kevlar / carbon-kevlar / carbon). We would own the moulds so would do a deal with the makers for a cut of profits on any wings produced using them. Maybe I need to look round again and get some up to date prices.

Yes my rad had a leak from the core - some tubes were leaking at the connection with the end tanks - they said they had never seen that before as the cores are made by some automated process that ensures excellent joints or something.....well mine leaked......they remade it for me but it took ages

I've read and been advised that the longer & tapered the runner = +ve effect on torque it will have. My old ITG set up was 40mm worth of spacing from the bodies (to clear fuelrail) - back plate - 40mm trumpet - 65mm internal height filter (15 between filter and trumpet) and could just about shut the bonnet! Will be using same spacing off the bodies again, at least 90mm trumpets and at least an inch space inside the filter.

Can't say I'm surprised about the mold cost tbh, bit of a limited market too, dread to think what the genuine items cost you! We've been talking to a composites place about doing roofing panels for canopys who've also done car parts will take a bulged out wing down there and see what they say.

Interesting, mine was gone at the end tanks too, not what you'd expect for a quality product, they wernt rapid making it in the first place, pop it off to them during the winter methinks.

Car looks great mate. I loving the black and orange them. Love the Comp MO's in orange. :D.

Didnt have much luck on your euro meet/ring trip but as long as you enjoyed it thats the main thing.

Quick question, where did you get your bonnet lifters from?

thats what the books say, and agreed its the general advice. I did some tests on my old BRM engine and saw no difference whatsoever in changing the inlet length (dyno proven) - go figure. My current engine has what you might call a short inlet length (85mm trumpet and 80mm dome clearance) and it just clears the bonnet - not far off what you found but my engine is 17mm lower down also. It is not short of torque believe me.....personally I would keep it under the bonnet for better aero and filter life

you want 40mm min inside the filter

You have to accept the aggrovation with open arms with a car like this

I did enjoy it, happy I mananged to fix it out there and drive it back. it was the wobbly wheel that was the most sobering event of the trip....

bonnet lifters, £11 from egay and painted black as they were too bling.

With 80 in the filter (or even 40) & 85 I would still poking out the bonnet:shrug: the filter will be enclosed not 100% how as yet. won't be doing anythign drastic til I really have to!

thats what mine is - just measured it again, maybe 75mm in the filter but definitely 80mm in the trumpet

Telford ay it...
Eventfull trip then! One thing that worries me about going to the ring is what if something goes wrong, good to see you got round it all though.

I was going to buy one of those engine mounts, don't think I will go solid now if its caused you issues.

Still love that orange :)

I took the tool kit with me and a number of spares - sparkplugs, clutch cable, pedal box, pads, fluids etc. What was the real killer I was contemplating taking the alty off the AGG engine that came out the Ghetto GTi as I run an 8v alty, but thought I was being paranoid:rolleyes:

It wasn't that bad compaired to the VT mount normal driving did'nt notice a difference in that respect, only when I gave it the beans did it cuase grief.

I'm seeing more and more cars with orange wheels these days, still like them even if they're not to everybodys taste!
