kristo, mine worked without having to do anything but code the key to my car and that was an 07 plate to lol

seebul, yes thats fine and as "al" said just dont break it! even tho i do know a guy that put a new key with new transponder on my golf

Got a new flip key today and got the blade cut the only problem is I cant seperate the flip key.
I have taken the screw out that is under the badge but still cant get it apart. Have also seperated the top and bottom half.

Can anyone help?

i did have slight troubles when i first got mine, but now its no troubles, get a small ish flat screw driver and put it in the crease down the side is better if u start on the edge were the other side of the key slots into and ask it politely to come appart or not so politly...

Yeah, I had trouble with mine. But with a little brute force........hey presto! took the transponder out and swapped it with mine, fixed the blank blade on and have programmed it into the central locking. Now just need to get the key cut!

Looks really good, apart from the missing badge! Will have to get one ordered.

I only got one key with my FR so i'm bidding on a flip key from ebay (blank blade) will i be able to programme this to my car as after reading this thread i'm unsure if i can programme it to my car? As most of you guys have removed the transponder from your spare key and stuck it in the flip one?

You will be able to programme it to do the central locking etc but not to start the car. The key you get will prob have a transponder chip inside it and will need programming professionally or you may be able to do it via VAG com??

I had my new flip key cut at a place called bolton lock co http://www.boltonlock.co.uk/

They said they did offer the service of programming the key but because I didnt need this I didnt ask for a price. Depending on your location there could be a place near to you, just dont bother going to the stealers, they are rip off merchants!

if you live in london i know a guy that has the cables to put a new transponder onto the ecu, even take all the known keys (from ecu) off it then put the ones you want onto the ecu again! he did it with my mk4 golf and im well impressed especially as i only started with one key!

You can do it yourself by swapping the transponder from your old key to your new one, be warned though I did this today and it is very fiddly! I ended up having to cut apart my old key and almost broke the transponder! Worth the trouble though

You can do, but if you look at mine and richie's previous posts just above this, we have mentioned alternative places to the stealers as they will probably be the more expensive option. I would check for auto locksmiths in your area and get some prices

OK, I'm now getting a little confused with this thread. Basically I have the two original keys and a new third one off fleabay. The fleabay one has the same model code number down the side of the key as my original one although the innards of the remote bit is slightly different so I'm hoping it should be ok in terms of frequency - I haven't got the blade cut yet or the immob chip done yet.

At this stage I'm only trying to get the remote central locking programmed.

My initial remote key is broken (the chip inside it is damaged).

Question number 1 - will this method work if the original remote key is broken?

Question number 2 - with the new key it doesn't matter that the blade and immob chip are different, right?

Question number 3 - so you take the original non-remote key and use that one in the ignition and turn it to on (i.e. lights on but not engine running). You used your original remote key to lock the door. The third key you just hold near the car. Now the pressing of the buttons (i.e. both step 3 and step 4 in the original process) - is this on the original remote or the new remote?

Have a feeling that basically the answer to question 1 is yes, 2 is it doesn't matter and 3?? Please can you help me figure out why it ain't working for me!!

you need the same blade as the original and u need a blank immob chip and at least 1 working immob chip in a different key to lock the new immob chip to your car (you might not be able to start the car tho) as i had to have mine put on with a computer. the guy who i used lives in london and he would be bale to sort you out if you live near.

You should now have 3 keys (Original, spare and your new flip key).

Turn the ignition on in car to just before it starts with your original remote key

Use your spare key to physically lock your car from the outside

Press and hold the unlock button on your new flip key for a second then let go and wait a few seconds and press the unlock button again.

You should hear a noise (like a beep) once it is complete

Take your remote key out of ignition and spare key out of the door lock

Then test your new remote (flip) key. It should now let you lock and unlock the car

to just control the central locking you would need the same blade as original but it should work,

you can program a remote with no blade but you need 2 blades to do it one in the ignition (oringinal working key), and one to turn the door lock, as long as you have this, you can program up to 10 remotes (IIRC)

Just another query - by original working key do you mean working blade+immobiliser or working blade+immobiliser+remote central locking.

I tried this again yesterday and it didn't work!

My original key (correct blade+immob) doesn't have the central locking feature working as a chip was broken inside it. I don't know if it is that preventing it working or the fact that my 'new' key isn't picking up the right frequency!!
