Thanks again john.

Out of interest how do you know so much about diagnostics/engines?

Dave I'm assuming you learnt so much from building your conversion? It's all very impressive and helpful.

I learned everything I know about 1.8Ts here (with a bit of side reading). Most of my learning came/comes from trying to work out what John is on about.... :D

'Maximum Boost' by Corky Bell is a good grounder on turbocharging.

It's amazing when you take a step back and start to realise how much info is on this website....and for free

I'll find a copy of that book, thanks

I'm a chartered engineer with 20 years experience working with thermodynamics, combustion engineering, air/gas handling equipment, and producing control philosophies for industrial processes, most of which is applicable to engines.

But my love/interest has always been cars/engines. There's lots of fantastic books around and tinitinet is a great information resource. Corky bells book is a good starting point for the basics of forced induction, but there are many more out there. You'd be amazed how much there is in your local library.

My limited knowledge of the ecu on our cars is from talking to guys that map these things, along with fault finding on my own car (of which there has been a lot over the years), books, and applying logic.

There are however significantly more knowledgeable people on here, and elsewhere. For me it's just a hobby.

Like Dave, I love taking thigs apert and rebuilding them to see how many spare parts I can have left when I've finished.:D

They're all reusable in the future though. :D

One of my rod change linkages on my Ibiza is far better now the split pin is spaced out with the threaded collar from the key ignition switch on one of my long dead Cooper S's.

your car has come a long way Aaron mate, anyone that hasnt seen and heard your car needs to..i think most LCR owners are using your car as basis to which we all want our cars to be..the paint and attention to detail is fantastic...nice one bud.

:worship: :) it must be nice to have such a background when your hobby is playing with cars. ive learnt everything by jumping in and taking things apart... working on the basis that if you take them apart you know how they go back together. i remember my first gearbox, my mum wasnt impressed with the state of her kitchen, hehe

I'm just a bodger...... :D

I wouldnt call any of your work that ive seen so far a bodge Dave, you obvioulsy know what you are doing.

We need to put a thread up matey... It all went a bit tits up, which is a shame because it must have been one of the more successful meets on here. I'm sure we'll get it back on track.

I'm going to try and get to as many shows as possible the year. Any takers?

i stripped my induction side of things down today... nothing at all to note. i also took the nozzle apart and gave it a clean, although it was already.

i will get some new plugs on order tomorrow and will gap them when they arrive.

im consistently getting poor figures from the MAF, i can tell this might get annoying. Even with the timing and boost dropped it still feels rapid, so its not the end of the world.

ive turned my WMI back on becuase i may as well have the cooling.... im running a 25% mix.

i do have some new logs but i dont think theyre worth posting.

I did some breif reading on timeing, and the reason its before top dead center is to give the petrol more time to burn, if detonation was at TDC the petrol/meth would not have all burned before the exhaust valves opened.

Just my two cents worth, when you pulled up on the drive on saturday Aaron, the car didn't sound as 'whooshy' or as loud as usual .... sounded like it was throttled back / choked unless you were deliberately being more careful than usual?

if i leave the ESP on from cold and pull away it bogs down Pat.... something its done since the Remap. i wouldnt give it any stick from cold anyway mate.
