flip key info thread

At the moment i have a standard 2 button round key not flip.

Am i right in thinking i can buy a flip key with the same frequency and transfer the circuit inside my existing round key to the new flip key?

I only have 1 key also, so i'm screwed if anything goes wrong and need the spare. The plastic pins holding the circuit inside my existing key have broken so the buttons do not make any contact with the board when i press them! :( Very annoying!

I've wanted a flip key for ages but there is a lot of conflicting info around!

Cheers

Darren

Hi guys, I've read through 90% of this thread (Phew!)... My dilemma is:

Only one standard remote key
No Spare key
No SKC (unless it's printed in the owners manual??)

Is there any way to get this SKC from SEAT? If I take in my logbook to prove ownership? Or in fact any other way to reprogramme a transponder without the SKC??

Cheers for the help!

P.S. Ignore the Mk3 in my sig... now driving a 54 Mk4 1.9TDi Sport

GlanzaV, there is a way to do it yes, i had only one key for my golf when i got it, i asked a guy on the uk-mkvis forum and he said he would try to do it, (btw he lives in london) and now i have two that work with my car he only charged me £10 to do that plus other things, :D

some dealers will let you have it, but may charge.

another way to get a working transponder could be to buy a new spare key from seat.

i bought a remote non flip key for my 04 FR tdi and it was £53 programmed and cut (which i thought was reasonable) so if you got the non remote version, it would be cheaper still, then rip it to bits and put the transponder in your flip key.

Hi there

Am I correct in assuming that I would need the transponder from my non remote spare key to be transferred to the flip key? Reason I am asking is that I only have one remote key for the car as the previous owner had lost the other keys. Are the dealers my only option to obtain a spare key?

Yes, if you dont have the spare key you would have to get your flip key transponder programmed or go the order the spare key way. Im not sure which is the cheaper method (IIRC somebody mentioned the spare key will set you back about 30 squid?) but I think the general rule is the main dealer is always dearer! ;)

Do you mean the transponder? Im going to be taking it out and replacing it with the one from my spare key, which should work shouldnt it?
