hardly worth the bother to cost them 50p is it? 99.99% of businesses are proper legit non tax dodgers, so it'll be no big deal to them

Also they might make you wait until the cheque is cleared before taking the car if you've pee'd them off

just a thought, but if you need them again (to fix / repair) then it might not be worth it?

edit: thinking about it, doesn't cash need 2.5% to "clear" into the Bank, so paying by cash would probably annoy them too. since you'd have to take time to go to the bank, so lose some money

Sounds like bad luck to me, as Mork said, its a custom job and they can charge what they want pretty much, although i think any decent person would stick with the original quote + or - £100 or so.

i think what hooch means by the cash thing is that with cash they'd have £2k straight in there pocket, where as with the cheque its got to go in the bank and be legit - only £1650 after VAT. Im just talking from a small business point of view - when you can get the cash you take it and say to the VAT man (well we do!).

Feel for you.....slippery slope IMO....my mates all think it's a waste of thousands of pounds...it's frightening when you add it all up and in the end especially the 1.8t engine is better left at K03 with map is a cost effective way of modding without issues of long term reliability.

This is what i was getting at in my post. Id say most small companys will pocket the cash and to the Tax man.

Yeah I know where you're coming from but it's more of a hobby for some of us and not everyone wants an Evo. Even Evos have issues when pushing 400BHP - I remember reading somewhere about a clutch lasting only 1k miles on a standard FQ400 and costing over £2K to replace.

Mind you it looks like I could be faced with another £1K+ bill soon...

final bill was £2080 i tryed everything to get a reduction but he wouldnt drop a penny!

so i just paid it..............now i need to find the money to map it

Thats harsh mate to be honest, considering they didnt consult you about the £700 hike i would have thought he would have came down a little.

nice one mate,it's done now and it's looks decent work.
As for the Evo comments,same thing happens when you get one you want more and more!
standard clutch on evo is about £800 fitted.
A twin plate clutch with lightened flywheel is about £1,300 fitted .
Labour and part prices are alot cheaper and the car has been developed more so more parts available off the shelf.

like you say, i would also spend loads on an evo, agreed it will be a decent car rather than sum clapt-out ibiza but im not doin it to make the best car possible. i love doin the builds and ive learnt loads.

today ive fitted my harness bar and harnesses and started rerouting the abs brake pipes.

ive got abit of a hold up with the flow-bench so if it comes to it i may not have it done

The next car I get iI won't be spending anywhere near the same ....I think B/T have too many issues if you're a 'non' DIY'r.

I need others to help me out if I've got issues which can be a pain. Hopefully I will be getting my good old 'reliable' 2 litre MK2 16V back....least it's a better everyday and track package for little cost in comparison with turbo power.
