Yeah, not a leg to stand on - you've commissioned them to do 'custom' work against an estimate.

But as you'll know in your trade, if you give an estimate, then the price is flexible - a written quote is fixed.

If you didn't sign anything, and they gave you no quote - then it's buyer beware, and limits should have been put in place.

However, I'd still argue that they need to break down the costs to demonstrate where the money has gone.

I would of expected to have been consulted about the extra cost, but thats inevitable when your having somthing specially made for the car, time is money etc

Does seem a bit staggering for what is just a manifold?

I think that he's invested enough in his car that it might be unwise to 'walk away'

since they'll keep the car until the bill is paid.

1 Turbo Bracket 100.00 100.00 17.50

How does that differ to the initial estimate?

Did they not cost in the Wastegate pipework (isn't that either manifold, or downpipe?), downpipe, decat etc - and that's the £700

or did they not estimate with vat, now costed it in?

Compared to what my manifold costs from a quality fabricator also...
manifold was £1200
Downpipe was £375
no external wastegate pipe
no decat pipe
no turbo bracket

Makes my £800 one coming soon (one day anyhows) a complete bargain.

Must have been a shock hoochy and huge miscommunication somewhere on the lines.

thats gotta sting :hide:

surly they cant do this. the only problem is i have no written quote.
i spoke to them on wednesday and i asked how it was going money wise. he said things look good and wont be far off! im then hit with a bill OVER £2000!!!!!!

im thinking of telling them to take it off and i will go else where!

To be honest mate, those prices look realistic for custom fabricated parts.Chalk it up to experience and get the thing done.

hardly worth the bother to cost them 50p is it? 99.99% of businesses are proper legit non tax dodgers, so it'll be no big deal to them

Also they might make you wait until the cheque is cleared before taking the car if you've pee'd them off

just a thought, but if you need them again (to fix / repair) then it might not be worth it?

edit: thinking about it, doesn't cash need 2.5% to "clear" into the Bank, so paying by cash would probably annoy them too. since you'd have to take time to go to the bank, so lose some money
