This is the response i had from the guy on ebay i bought my 'N' key from:

Hello,

This key is perfectly compatible with both serial numbers.

The reason why the forum says it is not is because other keys with serial number ending with N have a frequency of 434Mhz. However this key is 433Mhz which is the same as the A.

All you need to do is take the key to a VW dealer and they will do the programming for between 30-40 pounds.

The instructions I have provided will only let you program the remote to the central locking, you will still need to program the transponder to the imobiliser which can only be done by the dealer as they have the leads and machines required.

They will do all the programming for the same price therefore best thing to do is take the key there for programming. Only tell them that the key needs programming and they will do the rest.

Be assured this key is compatible because I have sold more than 200 of these within the last year and had no problems.

Regards,

Any suggestions on what i should go back to him with would be helpful as i had told him i have tried numerous ways to synch the remote to the car without success and that i have been told the N is not compatible with my car and would like to swap it for the A he also sells.

I find this compatibility issue kinda weird.

You've a 1J0 959 753 N key, according to ETKA that is a 2 buttons 433,92MHZ key for 2000-2001 Leon (see my previous post).

The exact same goes for the 1J0 959 753 A key. They're the same, except in appearance.

If both A and N are the same and the N you have don't work, I doubt the A would either.

According to ETKA your 2002 Leon Cupra will not work with A and N.

All this is only taken from ETKA, not the real world.

Mine was the same key as shown above and i got a flip key to work on 434 Mhz. Still not got the boot button to work on mine as others have but not bothered about that anyway as at the time the 3 button key only cost me about £12!

HI guys,

still not fully resolved my probelm. I bought what was supposedly a brand hew key AND transponder from ebay, coded the central locking ( my posts are somewhere around page 28 for this thread) but this weekend when I finally got down to seat they could not code the ignition in. I have a mate of a mate who works there but none of them really knew the ins and outs of the tramsponder and said that I probably had one that been used before. He then produced a seemigly brand new top but for a 2007 model car but that woul not code in either, so they said they had probably changed the transponder type on newer cars.

So, going from this site,

http://www.hickleyvaltone.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?manu=40

and before I spend any more money, can someone confirm the ATKP2 chip is the correct one for my 1999 Toledo Mk2 please?

Page 28 is kinda hard to find if you have altered the post per page count...

I can say that I've recoded chips with no problem. One of them was originally from an Audi key.
