Ok guys, i've had a reply from "turborevs" and "hids4u". If you don't want to read the emails they replied with scroll down to where it says "The Outcome"

"Turborevs"
Hi Dave, Thanks for your email.

Firstly to answer your questions:

1) No our kits do not require relays or anything like this, it is a genuine 'plug and play' kit, its not a complicated kit. This may seem like a sales pitch to you, but we genuinely do use the highest quality components in our kits and work closely with our manufacturing to ensure we have a quality product. Our ballast have a defect rate of 0.5%, which is pretty good in electronics considering when 1%-2% is an appectable industry standard.

2) All our kits come with full instruction manuals (diagrams, etc) which are straight forward to follow and anyone with car wiring knowledge could fit one, it take a professional mechanic approx. 15 to 30mins to fit the kit. We dont keep an electronic copy of the manual but we'll scan one in and email it to you within the next day or so if you want? (I have replied to this email, requesting a scan of the wiring diagram)

3) With regards the group buy if you can give me the sort of numbers involved I can give you specific price, however to give you an indication if your group buy is between 6 to 10 kits we can do the H7 kit for £120 each including delivery, We have done this for the Fiat Coupe Forum and they love the kits. From experince we realise not all members who are interested will buy first time round, as some will wait and see first. Hence its likely you will to do 2-3 group buys. There are a lot of cheap HID kits avalaible however I'd personally stay away from them, as the ballasts in them are basically crap and wont last a year, the lights will flicker with these cheap ballast and there is quite a bit of a delay before the light warms up. As the ballast is the most important part of the kit I'd make sure any kit you purchase has a decent quality ballast. Main things you want to look for is examples of the actual kit fitted and working, and references. Our ones you can check out on our website-
http://turborevs.org.uk/HID Conversion fitted.htm
and videos on-
http://turborevs.org.uk/Video clips of HID kits.htm

If you have any other questions let me know.

"HIDs 4 U"
Hi David. Thanks for your email, I have made a link for the group buy for you-
http://www.hids4u.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=155

I will do the extrashort version at no extra cost if requested when ordering.
I recommend the Ultimate kit for the newer cars 2004 on - and the discountcode is 'seatcupra.net'.
I take single orders from members as this makes life easier for everyone :)
If you need more information please let us know

Regards
Ian Director
HIDS4U Limitedwww.hids4u.co.uk

The Outcome:

Turborevs, will supply us with a kit delivered for £120 (£25 off his normal price), as long as 6-10 people are interested.

HIDs4U, seem to have just set up a cheaper price and created us a discount code, which is 'seatcupra.net' The kits come in at £189.99 (£20 off normal price). With this method, it looks like we can just use the discount code and buy a set if and when we want them, rather than requiring a certain number of people, however I need to clarify this, as if so, its not really a group buy!?

What Next?
So....what do you think? I myself don't want to pay the HIDs4U price, so I am quite keen on the Turborevs option, as he seems like a genuine guy, and as you can see from his email response he is very willing to help, plus he has done a group buy before, and the fiat people love the kit.

Are there 6 people interested??

Or the other option is what Joonspoon mentioned and go with the 2modified group buy at £145-

Dave

p.s. how does this site work with group buys??? Does turborevs have to be a registered seller on the site or anything like that etc etc? I don't want to get told off :headhurt:

had another reply from turborevs, he says that they have tested the HIDs4U kit, and actually rejected it due to poor ballasts which caused flickering etc. Obviously he wants our business but he seems genuine enough.

Also got a reply from "autobulbsdirect"
Hi

Many thanks for your enquiry. Yes we will be happy to offer a group buy discount. The discount would depend on the number of people in the group buy. We can offer a 15% discount for 2-5 people. 20% discount for 6-10 people. 25% discount for 11-15 people. 30% discount for 16-20 people and 35% discount for more than 20.

Please note if we are talking in the larger numbers then we may need a week or 2 notice to ensure we have enough stock to cover everyones orders.

Hope this is ok and i look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards
Pete Stubbings

Autobulbs Direct Ltd

The kit this company offers, retails at £230 (its the X3 kit). With the 15% discount it goes down to £195.50, and at the other end of the scale with 20 people and over, the 35% discount drops the price to an incredible £149.50!!Now that is definately something i'd be interested in, but i can't see 20 people or more going for it.

So i'm still thinking the way forward is with turborevs?

I need to email admin...to check how this can be arranged, and will then get back with more info.

I'm really interested in this.
My original price range was £100 to £150 so things look good.
I'm only prepared to pay top price for a known make with a decent warranty.
Do we need a separate thread for the HID buy?

Guy.

i've had a reply from admin, they say-

Hi Dave,

The trouble i have is, 2modified are paying SCN supporting sponsors. They contribute to the site financially, which in turn keeps the site free for people to use.

Would Turborevs still be able to offer their low price if they were paying us a sponsors advertising fee?

We find a lot of companies are fine at offering people discounts if its costing them nothing in return. Unfortunately non of us can afford to keep this forum online without paying sponsors, so they have to come first.

Best Wishes

Mark
ZBOYD

I have now sent turborevs another email explaining this, so we'll have to wait and see.

Joonspoon- if all goes well, then yes i think a seperate thread would be setup for this.

well thats 4 of us at least! which is brilliant. I'm awaiting replies from admin, and turborevs, hopefully they will come soon.

Really it depends on whether or not turborevs is willing to pay the "sponsors advertising fee".

However saying that, turborevs full price is still only £145 including delivery, so its still not too bad.

Another and probably final update guys. Turborevs has replied to my email concerning the payment of sponsors fees and this is what he said-

Hi David,
We are contemplating on going in as a sponsor or not as we have to ensure it would be worthwhile for us, in the meantime if you would like to purchase HID kits off us I can do you the price of £120 plus £10 delivery if you want for yourself and the others who are also interested.

Payment can be made direct by individuals if you want.

Paypal address is [email protected]

Please let us know the bulb size you require.

Thanks

So basically, the group buy is NOT on. But turborevs has agreed to let us buy the HIDs for a price of £120 plus £10 p&p. Which in my eyes is awesome, so come payday (5th Jan) i'm having a set!

What i suggest you do is email him, explaining that you are from this site, and were interested in the group buy etc etc and have seen that he is offering the hids for the price mentioned above, and just check with him how exactly he wants to go about the sale. I'm going to do the same now.

His email address is- [email protected]

I hope this has been of help to those of you interested in a set of HIDs, if any of you buy a set and fit them before me, let me know how you get on!

Good luck guys.

Great work Dave, thanks for the effort!
Hope the price is good for the rest of this month.
I'd like to order now but the Xmas bills mean the end of January is probably more realistic for me!

Guy.

well i emailed him again earlier, saying i will use paypal and explain exactly what the item is for etc. I also said i won't be paying until the 5th as thats when i get paid next. He didn't actually mention that in his reply, but using paypal to "send" the money, and using the title and comments section to tell him what the item is for is fine.

Just email him to let him know before hand to check he knows why you're paying the cheaper price.

I'll e-mail tomorrow about the duration of the offer.
Will post the answer on here.

what exacltly did you order in the end mate, just a straight forward H7 kit?

As of yet i havn't but come the 5th i'll be ordering the 6000k H7 kit. When i changed my bulbs to 6500k hid lookalike halogens, i didn't get any shortened bulbs for that, so surely the H7 HID kit will be fine? Or do i definately need the H7 shortened bulbs with HID kits???
