My standard LC, was just a bit slower than my girlfriends 51 plate 325i. Standing start the bmw has so much grip. Handles very well, had the 18 inch wheels.
My Dad liked it that much he bought it off us and doesnt use his 944 S2 anymore

A standard LC is almost identical to a ZR160 and even a Saxo VTS (surprising i know!)

Although the saxo is a lot lower power output it can keep up due to its low weight however over 70 the LC will quickly disappear into the distance.

I cant comment about standard however mine will just about shrug off a friends E36 328i and Rev 2 MR2 Turbo (although both would easily win from a standing start due to traction).

Lol I don't like it when the word "Saxo" is mentioned on this forum... I think of Halfords modification and burberry caps :cartman:

Saxo's are rapid little feckers. But that's because they weigh about the same as a packet of crisps and a bag of harbo starmix.

Oh actually...Isn't the VTS 0-60 about the same as an LC? 7.5seconds or something, which in turn isn't massively far away from an LCR.

Which knowing me would probably get to 60 faster than my LCR because I suck so badly at getting the power down without the traction control or wheelspin screwing me.

I've followed or been followed by an s2000, focus st, and rx8 and it's appeared that it's been fairly much of a muchness, which is quite depressing in it's own right, as mine is remapped.

I have to say it is slightly depressing when my friend in his bright purple (dont ask - he brought it that colour) VTS keeps up with me, considering he paid £500 for the car. :(

Oh well at the end of the day. i think i shall stick with mine :)

id put my money on you leaving the vts in a straight line.especially if youre cars remapped??!!forget 0-60 times,a second or 2 makes hardly any difference,im sure o-100 time of a vts is about 21s i reckon a mapped LC would be around 17/18s to 100?thats where the extra power becomes apparent...and more so after that.

I agree with Chris, there was very little competition when the car was originally launched other than Golfs and Audi's running the same engine, and of course the CTR :O

Back from the dead
I'm somewhat humbled by some of the honest and intelligent commentary in this thread relating to cars and their pace/acceleration vs. others cars.

31 posts and no-one has yet bang in a post giving it large to the effect of

"my ##### will leave a %%%%% for dead and I no he woz tryin coz I could see his face straining as I hit treble figures before I had to slow down for a zebra crossing....."

it can't last.... ;)

traction plays a big part, bit off topic, a saxo vts turbochraged pushing 200bhp at santa was only doing it in 15.7, he couldnt lay the power down properly, but the saxo are very under estimated, i hate it when the kids who first pass their test, their mum insures them on their vts

i just sold my saxo vts! It was stripped right down, yes it has a fiberglass body kit, and go faster paint :funk::funk::funk: but it was a very underestemated cars, with a few simple breating mods taking it to 130bhp, it wasnt shy, but it didnt feel shy. Going fast in it was scary as hell, felt like any minuite you would hit an ants mobile phone and write it off.
The cupra (not the R!) is around the same speed to 60, but it feels not as fast. But after 70 the vts would be long long gone in the leons mirrors!

I just bought my misses a 02 LC in silver. Considered saxo's but they are NCAP 2! very bad when you have a 4 month old boy to ferry around. the LC has traction and stability control 4 airbags NCAP4, and enough power and road pressence to get her out of trouble. It's a no brainer. You can't get all the above in one package for the same cash not to mention a very happy misses.

A happy misses means a very happy todger!

PS. She never forgave me for selling her cordoba SX 2l 16v si16 ltd edition and replacing it with an 1.6 astra!

The friend of mine with the purple saxo, also has a 2nd fully stripped out track VTS which i though would be very well matched to a lot of Leons on here.

BUT being french its currently off the road because its built of garlic and cheese and bits are constantly falling off it. I have to say that with no interior/dash and 2 bucket seats it feels extremly quick but its helped by the fact its like a big kart and cand feel every bump, hear every stone.

Anyway, enough of the Saxo talk..... I think we have all agreed that saxos are quick and cant be forgotten about, however we own a Leon for a reason. Because its not french, we wont die in it, and its a propper car. :)

No one mention Octavia VRS. Those tanks shift!

Aye you right there.I had one very quick but not as quick as my lcr.Had to get rid of it cause it was really bad on fuel with it only having a 5 speed box
