Here is my experience of trying to get a NAV update for my 2013 Seat Leon.
First I called Seat customer services to find out what map update I needed and how much it was going to cost.

He was nice enough but after a good 15 mins on hold while he spoke to SEAT Technical support he told me I had to contact the SEAT dealer directly for details.
I contacted Seat Dealers in Leicester, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Rotherham.

Rotherham and Sheffield told me to just download the maps and put them on the SD card and away I go.
I knew this to be wrong as I have been following this thread for quite a while now so I told them about the maps being activated, they had no idea about this procedure which frustrated the hell out of me as they are my nearest dealers.

Leicester and Chesterfield were aware of the activation. Leicester gave me a price of 122.18 inc vat and including activation. Chestefield gave me a price of 118.24 inc vat with an additional 60.00 for activation.......

I went to Leicester on Friday, approx. 200 mile round trip. They told me it will take anything between 15 mins and 30 mins. They came back to me after fifiteen mins as the card that has been sent has NO activation instructions. SEAT wont give one over the phone. They said they will call me back when they have the activation license document........

SEAT won't give them a code because the dealer has ordered the wrong sd card.

There are two sd cards available :

One is an sd card for loading new maps in to a new car that has never had maps loaded.
( this is the one they will have ordered )

The other is an UPGRADE sd card to upgrade the maps already coded to the car - this is the one that arrives with an activation code.

Hello,

I made some tests with my navigation sd card.
As everyone here, i did not manage to update my maps as I don't have mapcare.
But I think I did not test every combination possible.

However, I made an insteresting discovery that i did not see in the thread:
- When I get my car, I made an image file of my original navigation sd card with "win32diskimager". As a backup.
- I made a few tests with another sdcard, trying to update my navigation data. Unsucessful. It seems there is a specifity to the originla SDCard (hidden partition ?). And that the only way it will works is either being able to duplicate this specificity or work with the original SDCard
- I had an issue with the original SD card as I used it at some point in a corrupted PC that modified the file structure (virus)
- Of course, the SD card was not recognized any more in my car. I thought I would have to play dumb with my Seat dealer and try to use warranty
- But I restored my original image, to the original SDcard, using the same software. And the GPS worked back !

That means we can make some try and error with the original sdcard files without crashing it definately.
So maybe there would be some opportunities with only replacing map files in the original sd card or/and making some change within the binary data of those files to dupe the software.

Regards

Well last year I did in the company some tests too.
Seat has encrypted a part of the SDcard (that's why it is called SecuredData) so it will only work with your car.
it is strictly linked to your car.
It is very well secured because I tried several tools to get access to that secured part and even with low level tools I couldn't.
So when a virus got to your card probably only the boot sector would be suffered from that but not the secured part. So when you restored your image you restored your bootsector and the data and that is why the card was working again.
The encrypted part can't be flashed or copied and it was unaffected by the virus so the card is still linked to your car.

And did you make some tests on your original navigation sdcard?
Like updating only the maps?
Or do you think there are some kind of checksum in the secured partition?

I'm sure someone said that the map SD card is a strange size ie - not the usual GB size you can buy in the shops.

Yes but we can write on this SD card.
Does someone already tried to make update of the files on the sd card?

Like only some of the files, in the map folder? Or injecting the binary data in the file, letting the original file header?

In my LeonFR 2.0 TDI
I've tried updating ALL of the files, but that didn't work, and had to revert back to the backup i made, I've yet to try the individual files. For me down south it'd be these:

GreatBritainSouth_AdvancedRouting.psf
GreatBritainSouth_Basic.psf
GreatBritainSouth_ExtZips.psf
GreatBritainSouth_GeocodingPOIIndices.psf
GreatBritainSouth_GlobalPOIIndices.psf

Hello!

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but being as this whole thread is pretty much the reason I found the forum it sort of makes sense. I've read through the whole thread now - seems as though all the issues I've had trying to update my maps have been the same for a bunch of folks. Except that I read this thread after I messed everything up. Silly me. Downloaded the latest versions from navigation.com (here is such a stupid name for a website btw), copied them on to my sd card and obviously that failed.

The rub? I thought I'd copied over the original map data files over and I hadn't. So now I don't have sat nav.

I saw back at the start of the thread a few people had posted up some links to their versions (036 was kicking about I think). Mine was 034.

So really, the reason I'm here is to ask a huge favour.

Does anyone still have a copy of 034 version? I have AT Europa v3 that came with the Leon.

If anyone has a copy of v3 version and could maybe upload and share or pm a cheeky link so I can just restore to what I should have stayed happy with I would very much appreciate it.

Cheers all.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but another copy of exactly the same maps from a different car won't work. It's the same reason you can't download the map and copy them to an existing sat nav memory card.
Basically it requires code that ties that memory card with that version of maps to your car and your car alone. I spent hours copying, backing up old card, pasting trying all to no avail. I tried a friends newer memory card straight out of his 2015 65 plate Leon in my 2014 64 plate Leon. Identical on make, model, colour, the lot and it would not recognise the card!

Why you ask!

Well, I managed to get the dealer to get me the latest maps on a little clause. I basically found that the maps I had were from Nov 2013 and my car was not purchased until Dec 2014. Therefore any maps that were released before I bought my car should be on my sat nav. Hence, I should have had the 2014 maps but they can only get hold of the latest maps on memory card, so they had to give me the 2015 maps. Lol
The thing that gets you is that in the UK, and only the UK, when it comes to Europe, you have to get the maps on memory card and they have to be "fitted" by Seat. The reason for this is due to the procedure to get the maps to work. Which is a form of copyright protection. Seat techs have to remove the battery, plug in the diagnostics computer, insert the new memory card, reconnect the battery, enter the code that comes with the new memory card (which comes in a DVD case) and hey presto it works.

So, in a nut shell, you will only get maps to work on your car that didn't come with you car if you have the special code and follow the procedure with the battery and the correct diagnostics set up!!

I honestly have scoured the Internet for days trying to find a solution to this and there honestly isn't one. If you want the latest maps for your Seat in-car sat nav then get ready to pay £150+ Every year!

My recommendation: Buy a TomTom for £100 and get FREE lifetime map update :)

............ or maybe tell Seat that you want new sat nav maps as part of any recall compensation if your car is involved in the deisil scandal [:@]

Maximus.....granted I may have picked u up wrong about how seat "fitted" the maps for the sat nav but.....
When i took delivery of my new leon recently the sat nav did not contain any maps. I had a memory card in a dvd case that was in the boot in cellofane (i know i have not spelt that right lol) as if it was taken off a shelf and not associated with my car. Is it not a possibilty to buy the newest, most up to date card from Seat?

Can anyone who has the V6 SD card upload all of the files so I can put them back onto my own V6 card, please?

Updated it using the online Navigation thing and then realised it doesn't work like that and I don't have a backup and no satnav at all now.

Maybe he hadn't read the thread at all before trying to update and when it went wrong he looked on here for help.

Just a thought.

Well obviously, that goes without saying.
But looking on a webpage for help is a far cry from searching for a a site which might have the info, signing up, and blindly posting on a thread that is specifically relating to the problem you are having, but not bother even looking at the first few/last few posts to see if the problem has been addressed before.

Ah yes, good point. I just read your post as having an unnecessary pop at him without me actually digesting his request.

You may disregard my original post

To add some techie info to the above see this link

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/secure-digital-memory-cards3.htm

My guess is that the key encoding the data is linked to the car. When you copy files from SD cards they are still encrypted as they dont use a key correctly to decode them.
