It's undergone a leap in the reference code so needed advanced sniffing to find it which took a little longer for people who search these files out ahead of them going live.

You must have valid Seat navigation FeCs else you won't be able to load it up. Mib Tool can be used to edit your FeCs or upgrade to 1447 AIO or use the boards retrofitter East Yorkshire Retrofit if not confident with software. For DIY firmware changes see the resource to this post (top left - Overview) and the Mib2 firmware thread. This thread mapping updates only.

RoW has it's own life time navigation FeC. Seat Plus were not exported outside Europe but you can use the Skoda RoW with luck for any one in the outback with their Seat Plus unit etc. Mib Tool for that. Audi people use that route but have their own RoW life time navigation FeC.

Any update on wether this fits on a 16gb card still with the languages deleted ?
Personally I haven't tried putting the 2010 all Europe mib2 standard download on a Seat 16gb card chipping away at the languages. Previously I had read of other files that can be deleted out as well as the language files other than GB.

On the Arona here, we would not dream of taking it on long international journeys. Too uncomfortable for that so just update to one of the zones. I have the 32gb Skoda card but keep it as back just in case the Seat 16gb card fails. Plus the the Samsung Evo gold card I created with the cloned CID. Educational project.

The other way is to explore the standard mib2 toolbox which I understand is similar to the mib2 high toolbox. They have implemented the same FeC writing capability. You give yourself the life long standard FeC and then also I understand it you adjust the CID check and use 32gb normal card... mind you feels easier to just buy the 32gb VAG card and use the workaround 👍. The easier option than adjusting the language files on each release. I keep the original overall.nds on a dummed up directory path so without notes just pick it out and overwrite what I've just copied to the card... no need to check notes 😉.

Yeah good point.
I might just keep using one of the smaller zones for the time being and get a 32gb card if I desperately want the whole of Europe at one time.

The MIB2 standard toolbox isn’t an option for me as I’ve got one of the later units that needs something soldiering onto it to install.

I though they would catch up with that as new roads and features are put on the map. There was about a 2 - 3 year warning that it was going to pop the 16gb card. Hence the zoned releases before you actually needed it. Then the day arrived. The language work around but then the main map files continued to expand. As I said I did stumble on an old German or Spanish post where they were deleting other things but its likely to catch up with you. Only a stop gap. If I stumble on that post again I'll pass it on to try out with this release.

You will probably need to bite the bullet as I did, best £30 I spent frankly as I was in an area without mobile data in rural Austria in the summer and without the car navigation I would probably have ended up eaten by wolves.

Ok I found where I read the more excessive deleting stuff for the all Europe standard map on a 16gb card last June 2022 from a poster on the Briskoda board.. You delete Skoda thou not Seat and keep Seat plus the workaround that you need for Seat cars. Well if you like to make things last, worth a try.

Poster:
I was curious about this as my car also only has a 16GB card and it it was just ~100MB more space needed so after a bit of poking around I managed to get it to fit on my 16GB card by deleting a few other files (in addition to the usual language files):

In the folder "maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\" delete the highlighted files/folders (basically anything VW or Seat specific):

  • SEAT (whole folder)
  • VW (whole folder)
  • se_default.cfg
  • vw_default.cfg
You should be left with just the SKODA folder, sk_default.cfg and vw_man.cfg. I didn't delete the file vw_man.cfg as it was the only file what that name format.

It should then (only just) fit on to a 16GB SD card (14.8GB formatted).

Plugged it in to the car and after checking the files it didn't report any issues and seems to work fine, but YMMV...

Probably why I didnt favour that post on the Briskoda site at the time. 😉

Depends a lot on whether you are planning to drive across Europe in the car you have with the system in it. I settle for Region 1 in the Arona being a run around and the all region in the mib2 high in the Ateca.

Standard Navigation Map Release November 2022 - aka release code 2010

On these ones you do have to use the workaround and DON'T delete what is on the SD card without copying it since you need a file from it to make it work and DON'T format the card, just delete the contents
. Watch out if you use a Mac for this, suppose to use Keka and CleanMyDrive on the SD card if a Mac.. Use the zoned releases if you have a 16gb card or the language trick covered in the resource to fit ECE AS on the card or get a 32Gb card. All map files are interchangeable across the VAG brand for Mib2 FeCs allowing - they are identical premade to across VAG.

Resource link on how to do it:

Credit file location to Briskoda MartiniB who uses advanced sniffing techniques to find them. Beats everybody else now.

Hi,

I can see I have the Mib2 system from my Leon screen (attached) and I will use the above map source to update my Leon maps but from my image do I need to update the firmware first? If so, where do I find the firmware resource to be able to do this?

Thanks very much!

Indeed that is a mib2 standard. You don't need to update the firmware but you must do the "workaround" detailed here under workaround:

It requires the overall.nds file from your original map release to be retained and copied onto the new release of the map files. There are the special Mac instructions, don't format the SD whether it's a PC or Mac just delete what is on it.

Not a lot can go wrong if the instructions are followed. We have Exciter to thank for the workaround method which he devised in early 2017.

Ah that's great news and advice. Thank you very much Tell and Exciter for such a brilliantly helpful source of help for the map updates! :) I will try this later.

I have the same problem as Jonial (#2,645) above. With my empty SEAT 16GB SD (14.8GB of usable space) card, after deleting all the language files under maps\00\sds and VW and SKODA folders/files I am still 52MB short.

Looking through the various folders, we really are down to the bone here. I was hoping a few more MB could be cleared from maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SEAT\poi, assuming the non-GB POI folders and files are not needed, but it's hardly worth it as the total only adds up to a couple of MB.

So, looking in the maps\00\nds\PRODUCT folder, do the E-- numbers represent the region map groupings somehow? I think I am happy to sacrifice a POI.NDS file just over 52MB provided it's not for a country I am ever likely to visit. I am looking at countries in the ECE 3 or ECE 7 region map regions being the most preferred for removal of their POI.NDS file but I need to confirm I am getting the right file that won't affect others country's POIs. Any knowledge of the folders under maps\00\nds\PRODUCT and their contents?

Thanks,

SC

Or just buy the 32gb Skoda card off an e seller or a Seat one. One with decent feed back. Slap the all Europe map on it do the workaround and Bobs your Uncle. The choice is yours regions on the 16gb card or all of Europe on the 32gb card. Finding the odd mb may be lost at the next update. Two a year. New roads get built etc so maps grow all the time.

Yeah, I agree. I was just seeing if there was one or more files I could sacrifice before I had to buy a 32GB SD card. Looks like it's not really possible without potentially making at least one of the maps malfunction so I will just have to order a 32GB card. Cheers.

Today I managed to update my navi maps, using the second link. Downloading and unzipping went fine. However, problems came when trying to copy the files to a 32 Gb card: all files didn't fit, 10Mb shortage. Second 32 Gb card: same problem, but larger shortage. Both cards were used for previous updates.
What to do? Buying a new card seemed a gamble, so I took a larger card, a 64 Gb microSD card. It was formatted to exFAT before and contained a large video file in it's own folder. I kept it this way and just copied the navi files to the root. And this worked!
It only took about twice as long to update as previous updates. Could this be because of the exFAT file system?

Anyway: Thanks again Tell!!!

It could be.... I answered a similar question on the Briskoda board since they are experts (well some of them) at messing stuff up. 🤔 They go off piste and take the high road.

The 32gb card should / can be formatted with a cluster size of 16 kilobytes in Fat32, that gave me 398 nearly mb free.

image.png.824deea12765f2052685fa7926eedefb.png

If the allocation size is too great the indexing of Fat32 eats the space. NTFS you can't do on the 32gb cards for the same reason. Also there may be variation on what you can get out of these cards. I did also notice that formatting in Windows 10 / 11 could default to a silly size unless you altered it. This might be a bug that Microsoft have now fixed.

Class 10 cards takes about 40 minutes or so.

Note this conversation of formatting cards is only for Seat Plus / Mib2 High.... never reformat a Mib2 standard navigatiin card - that's been known to kill the card. Don't fiddle with the allocation size in those cards... likely to end in tears. 4096 is that allocation size for those cards and should be put at that if it gets altered by accident.

Ah, I see. I will try this formatting settings on one of the 32 Gb cards with the next update, that will probably be somewhere mid 2023. Thanks for the advice Tell.

I had the same problem when I updated my maps last Sunday, had to use a new 32gb card (which I already had), 2 of my old 32gb cards did not have enough space. I checked them for errors but non found.
