The Asymmetrics weren't too good last night coming home from work. The roads around me and outside of Burton were covered in a mix of ice and snow, going through the village on the ice I wasn't going above 20 mph as it was that slippy. There seemed to be more grip in the thicker snow down my road.

As said drive within the limits of your tyres and it's usually not a problem.

I have Continental ContiWinterViking 2 winter tyres under my car. ~100 km/h is quaite relaxing speed in icy and snowy roads. I keep those in my car 5-6 months in a year.
Btw. Conti's have a much better handling and high speed features than Nokian's.

These are both Scandinavian tyres which I guess are great where you live. Think they would be special order over here. Does the smaller size fit ok on the starfish? I notice they are also a larger profile. I just use 225/45-17s on winters.

In the UK a European winter tyre is much more suited for our all round winter conditions. In tests the European tyres actually beat a lot of the full studded Scandinavian tyres for grip in snowy conditions.
Something like the Conti TS830P or Michelin PA4s are both excellent. Unfortunately I couldn't afford those so have Infinitys and Vreds wintrac Extremes which have good grip. I went flat out round the works car park with a bit of drifting!!!
It just proves how well prepared again the UK is for ice and snow especially given last years warning.

well, 205/50-17 is the standard size for my car. Also the alloys are standards, so they fit great.
20,5cm is about 8inches, but this works well even though the rim is 7" or 7.5" dont remember.

I'm guessing it's my tyres, everyone else on the road seems to grip so much better than me who seems to struggle to find any grip in this snow.

Did you try reversing up?It transfers even more weight onto the front wheels and gives better traction.

im running eagle f1 aswell and mine are pants prob due to only a few mm tread left but got my standard alloys on now

Mine don't seem that great in the snow to be honest, but I've not driven a Leon on any other tyre in the snow so can't really compare

im suprised with my tyres have pirelli p zero 235/35/19 on the front they grip fine taught they would struggle being so wide cause from knowledge thinner tyres work better in snow

I was pushing mine a little this morning we have had freezing temperatures for a while now, no snow on the ground and my Avon ZZ3 have not slipped once.

well - 8 this morning glad i topped my washers up with a better mixture , as they didnt freeze

im running falkens , and were pretty poor , even with less air in them for more traction / grip

could be because theres not massive amounts of tread left , , but the night before i got stuck in the lane behind my house , coundnt go forward or reverse , it was just spinning ,

wasnt touching throttle , just clutch riding , and the car was pulling to the side , almost went into the guys garage wall

so ran back to my house got the trust shovel out , and dug a huge trench back to mine , and reveresed it back to my house



i was thinking of getting hold of some space savers , nice and thin not leaving much footprint

any thoughts or comments , i dont want the expense of buying cold/winter tyres ,
