Yeah, same problem, super slippery, even at 2000 revs doing 5 miles an hr.
Also locked up and ABS worked overtime at same speed.
Just glad to be past all that now, still in one piece!!
Mate in a Vtec now with dented rim, was just pulling away.
Also a pal's BMW now shagged, a grands worth of damage, wing, bumper, light cluster, at 5 mph ( and he's doing the work himself, to make it cheaper. )
Any more snow and I'm sticking with my Mk2 golf gti until it thaws!!

I'm on Eagle F1 asymmetrics aswell and the grip on snow is shocking but everything you read about the Goodyear (including the writing on the sidewall I'm sure), says "not suitable for snow" so I shouldn't really be suprised.

Funny experience though I've got 18" ultraleggeras wheels on the car shod with the F1s (225/40 extra load) and they are shocking but last year I had the standard 17" FR+ TDi wheels on with the F1s (225/45 extra load) and I don't remember my grip being that bad last year in the snow. Anyone explain that?

I've decided, that as I've still got the standard wheels sitting in the garage, I will stick a set of winter tyres on them for next year. This should make life a bit less scarey in the snow...

For what its worth, why buy snow tyres when its maybe 2 weeks of the year that its snowy/icy?

I'm on pirelli Pzero Rosso, and in the snow yes they are ****, but the snow has cleared up near me, so should be ok. I bet that insurance is invalid if the sidewalls says do not use in snow if anything were to happen..

I work for audi so just keep fitting part worn pzero's but next time i can afford tyres i will be going for the goodyears

I agree Tim, how often does it snow over here. I live in the south and it rarely gets cold enough to snow/become icy so I don't bother with winter tyres.

My GY asymmetrics did suck balls in the ice though! But it's all melted now so it's academic.

Iv just had a full set of Bridgestone RE050's for 89 a corner. Am very impressed with the grip in these bad conditions, not had a chance to try them out in the dry yet but so far I have no complaints.

Winter tyres are not just for snow - they are probably better called cold weather tyres. Where the ambient temperature is below 7C then winter tyres will outperform any standard or performance tyres. Up here in Glasgow historically the maximum temperature is below 7C during dec-Feb and Nov and Mar are marginal.

I intend to swap back to my original rims every winter anyway to keep the salt off my ultraleggeras (although I never got round to it yet due to being out of the country). So why not stick a set of winter tyres on for the cold weather.

got gd3's on mine but weather hasn't been as bad as some, but been taking it steady and had no problems with tc or abs kicking in or anything like that

as said for the 2 weeks we get this weather its not worth the extra money for snow tyres as far as i am concerned, just take it easy and you will be fine

My car got trashed (

Dunno if it's been written off yet, but that's what I expect.

Dunno what to get if it is. Another? Or An R? Or something else? Nothing sticks out except a 350z but I don't think I can stretch to that.

Skinny and studded is what you need if its that bad, mind you even then driven hard will still struggle

No grip at all with Conti SP3's could really do with some snow chains as you can pick them up for around £60.
The SP3's are great in the dry and wet though - as long as it is warm.

Add me to the list of people standing still running GSD3s - there is a carpark right next to where we live that hasnt been gritted in about 2 weeks - I need to take a great big run up at 10-15 mph to even stand a chance of getting out of the thing, but the other half's 1.1 Pug 106 blitzes straight up there with it's skinny tyres!!

Incidentally I don't think the directional tread patterns do us any favours at all - had some Kuhmos on my old Rover with the same arrow pattern and they were absolutely gash when it snowed last year...

As mentioned, width really doesnt help either in these conditions! Tyres which can barely manage to set off + the snow plough splitter trying to drag half an iceberg along with you = very slow movement!! I can't set off unless its pretty much completely flat / downhill at the moment! oh well, its worth it when the carpark next to us is empty on a night... the ESP goes straight out the window!! ;)

may be this winter will give some ideas to government to tell drivers to use winter tyres in winter season? Becouse summer tyres are useless when the temperature drops below +7C. From our practise, when we started to use winter tyres, there are much less injuries. The insurance doesn't pay money, if you got in accident in winter in summer tyres.

yep, my old gsd3's were damn right scary in the snow. shame I live in a city thats built on seven hills.

My house is 600 feet above sea level and I have to travel a mile down hill to get to the nearest main road. As you can imagine the LC hasnt moved since monday and the wifes nissan micra has been commandeered for the week :D
