Obligatory car park shot. Fitted a dashcam the other week. I had a trip to London at the weekend, so I'm about to hit 800 miles on the clock.

Remote key fob distance is pants; you have to be right next to the car and sometimes press the button a few times.

I seem to recall some owners had issues with unlocking cars in some car parks - possibly signal issues. But generally only affected specific spots?
Or maybe just needs a new keyfob battery?!

Thanks. It's the same outside anywhere I am and it's a brand new key so wouldn't have thought it was the battery. I'll try the second key (which I haven't done yet) though.

Still need to lock it though or does yours auto lock? The press cars do but I'm sure they've got extra security tech. Mine doesn't.
Presume your auto unlocks when you approach... this was a coding mod on Atecas but they might have implemented it. To lock if it's like the original kessy you just cover the dimple area on the handle, the back of your fingers and touch. That normal kessy lock unless disabled though some menu setting. Suspect it will lock by touch if you do that and you got it unlocking on proxy.

Normal kessy open and lock without proximity opening is just grip the handle, lock is back fingers, touch on the dimple you see on the handle.

There are diagrams... may be they changed it somewhat.

Nb. Found the manual for your car... B you touch to lock, no key fumbling. Just standard kessy if it's like manual.

Mines the same with the bad signal. Tried new batteries, tried using the spare but no better. Brought it up at the service and the mechanic agreed it was poor but apparently there was nothing they could suggest! You could lock my mk3 Leon from half a mile away lol...

It's actually got a bit better with updates not sure how...

I'm used to it now and just use the keyless.

I'm assuming you know about putting your hand on the inside of the handle to unlock and tapping the back of the handle to lock it?

That way you never need to use the remote.

The remote to lock is probably old school 😉. Been happily using Kessy since 2016. The early Formentors seemed to have an issue where both the left and right fell asleep with low car battery. They are designed to close down the Kessy passenger side to save the car battery if it's getting low... in that case take a walk to the drivers side. The launch Formentors seemed very sleepy both sides went off together. Think that's been fixed.

The virtual pedal if it's got one is the virtual pedal dance. That's stand behind with the key on your person. Foot underneath then step back to break the kessy link between you and the car, the tailgate will open, if not try again. Health and safety, becareful when you step back. Nearly had me flat out at a Premier Inn with the curb at the back. You can normally move left or right to break the connection. It is handy when carrying stuff.

Grab to unlock, touch the outside with the back of the hand to lock. Third finger on the back of the hand as you walk away.

You probably have an auto mirror in toggle on the menus to bring the mirrors in on lock so they don't get side swiped. So lock and mirrors in. That action that Seat went off on one between 2016 for a couple of years. You had to do a long hold, a couple of seconds... back of the hand to get the mirrors in that way. It was always in the Vag coding like proxy unlock but never brought out into the menus. Seat relented and gave you that click option of mirrors in at lock rather than holding your hand against the outside door to get that action. You code it in on the early Seat's to get the standard action and menu. What I did, wasn't going to hang about to get the mirrors in.

Should also be a cap cover that covers the lock as well so if you ever get locked out you flip the cap off and use the key. Never had to do that. Carry a spare battery on me now.

ok so it doesn't work, auto unlock and lock when I walk away and come back to the car, nothing. Also locking with the handle touch doesn't work either. All settings are on, tried turning them off and on again. Got the light animation to work once. Will try the other key- this one may be dodgy.

Your dealer... teaching grandma to suck eggs... should really have sat you in the car and given you a full introduction to the controls, the app login etc. Getting logged in seems to be a stumbling block for some people.

Probably the proximity one might be toggled on and off as well as Kessy on the handles.

Technical authors... Seriously they have hid the infotainment manual... it's all on page 33 wherever the manual is.

Screenshot_20250215_084719_Drive.jpg

Seat / Cupra manuals always remind me of the days of ICL Computers. They employed technical authors who's job it was to write the behaviour of the system to how it was programmed. A failure of the technical author to write it correctly or ICL to supply it, then it wasn't documented. You'd find that at university, you'd ask the help desk... I'm having problems with this. In this case we are looking for page 33. 😉 Not jumping out at me although I don't have the car. Manuals of plus 300 pages are a bit long to read but I reckon it's an another one.

Manuals are here but I reckon they have been reorganised from the text:

As an aside introducing proxy locking and unlocking which was always in Kessy but not brought out as menu options in the implementation but dormant is likely to lead to people with coding devices enabling it and locking themselves out of the car.

For these new cars with the light show the warmth of it activating as you approach must be why it's now implemented. Fine if your car is set up to do that but if not playing with coding to enable that function of self locking, could lock you out. Seen examples of that on the board in the past. Certainly with the Ateca you won't get out if locked in. I tried that once in an experiment with turning the inside movement sensors off using the inbuilt method which uses the Kessy door handle. No meddling with the coding. It's locked, sensors off and you are stuck in it.

They did offer but I was in a rush and insisted I'd take care of it and read the manual!
If only one could find page 33.😊 Reckon it's been re numbered and somewhere else.

Regeneration is the one that will get me when I do move to EV whenever that may be plus DCC suspension settings... think I'll leave it all on automatic. Also keep the connect services running.
