Hindsight i know but wouldn't the Golf R have been the more sensible option? Holds it's value better, more power, 4wd (so not too far departed from what you're used to) and there are plenty of lease deals available.

Yup. would have been the smarter option for me, and I'd not have to buy the thing so value would have been a null point. Was a mistake, but I honestly thought I'd love the Leon...

Yeah yeah. I wish I was like all you big boys. Thanks for all the help.

Its par of the course with these threads for you to attract an insight from some, more of their inability to interact with others, and consider anything other than their own insecurities.

But I've found, over all these years SCN folk are outstanding peeps, who are so infrequently warriors and more generally very helpful. Hence I've been here >10 years.

Someone said you should have had a golf. Better residuals. Maybe. But have a read of this. In addition to the folks thoughts of 'Grip levels are not great in the wet' and a fair bit more (both positive and negative). Another forum, and another portion of delightfully defensive and helpful folk - enjoy!

Have you decided how you'll sell it yet? I maintain that a private sale will see you lose less money overall

Going to have to be, as none of the Seat dealers in Scotland barring the supplying dealer, want to buy it. One even told me it would be money down the drain as no-one is buying them. Probably because of that Golf...

So, will wait until the new year and will advertise it on auto trader etc.

That VWROC post just confirms to me that the Bridgestones are a weak link, as I think the Golf comes with them fitted, too. I also see that the blinkers are in use over there, too, as nearly all the posters are shooting down the OP for daring to say the R might not be as good as they all think.

The waiting time for the Golf is approaching 8 months now. I was told 30-34 weeks. It seems to be appearing in quite a few mags' COTY lists, too.

Have a look at your finance agreement or contact the finance company. If you have paid over half (which you have with your deposit) you should be allowed to hand the car back to the finance company and walk away without anything further to pay or any blemish on your credit file. Not an ideal sooution, but might not be as big a hit on your pocket and gets you out of the car sooner.

So, I give them the car back, and walk away unblemished with no money? Effectively throwing 14k down the toilet.. I don't think I like this plan.

This was Full last Thursday. £57 full.

258 miles. With 20 left on the range. 278 miles from a full tank.

Mine always says 335 miles on the range when I fill it up, but always stays at 335 for 50-60 miles before starting to decrease. Why doesn't it just give me the proper number to begin with?

That's all urban and suburban miles, btw, as no motorways or dual carriageways on my commute...

Mine doesn't. Mine says 300 when I fill up then decreases instantly. Last time it had dropped to 295 before I'd left the petrol station. Is mine broken?

Even if you'd have gone for a golf R the depreciation would have been epic. The WBAC valuation on a 6 month old R is 21k, down from 30k. It applies to most new cars, the Leon is not alone.

It's not "depreciated" 10k either, 4k of the loss is dealer profit (when looking at best broker prices), which leaves 6k depreciation. Not pleasant at all, but unfortunately it's the way it is with new cars. A private sale might get you 20k, but might take a while to sell.

The WBAC price on mine is £5k less than I paid 2 months ago, luckily I'm very happy with the car and intend on keeping it a good few years.

Definetly I would say, as most of my journeys are short 6 - 8 miles from work and still get 32 av. My total since new is only 29 .7 cos that includes fast runs etc.

Try this to see how the Golf R compares to the Cupra 280 on the AE track.

A small snippet from that same site's review of the Golf:

Perhaps the best thing about the Golf R is that it lets you use all of its performance. If the front tyres slip, the new 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system can send virtually all of the engine’s power to the rear end in a fraction of a second. Whereas a high-powered front-drive car such as the SEAT Leon Cupra would be left floundering with its traction control light flickering

Obviously you don't need to test drive both of them to know what you've quoted, so that's something a potential buyer should be aware without any test:). I think it's quite obvious that 280 HP for such a light car is a bit too much, when all the power is send to the front and the surface is wet.

Too bad, my decision would be a Golf R32 too if I had a chance to choose between these two, so I feel sorry for the topic author, I don't know if I could find peace with a car that I simply wouldn't like. Would probably sell if the finances would allow that and swallow it, f**k it:drunk:.

What's the price difference between them(new or used)? Maybe if the author sells his Cupra and buys an used Golf R, that's always an option too.
