I'll need some information from someone with a newer Garmin device.

Somewhere on the device there will be a sticker with serial/part and model numbers.

I don't need/want your serial number but if you can give me any part/model numbers it would help.

I.E. The Navigon device has the model "70/71 Premium Car" or similar.

If there's anyone with a device who is able to get a raw dump of their device it would also be useful.

Hi Antoine,

Thanks for getting hold of the software, I will give it a try on mine now.

Can you expand on the bluetooth error? Sorry don't really understand what you mean.

Forgot to mention I had a reply from Garmin/Navigon via email and here it is:

-----------------------

Hello Stuart,

thanks for your e-mail.

We are sorry about the issues you have and would like to help you.

The current version for the device is 7.10.25 and we constantly develop our software. At the moment we can't give you any information about if and when a software update will released.

Kind regards

Hi DiscoStu88,

The bluetooth firmware is supposed to be flashed after the upgrade.

But in my case, the flashing procedure gets stuck at 1%... When I restrat the PID, it says to me that the flashing coudlt not be performed because of low battery (which does not make sense =- the battery was full).

OK didn't go as planned. Complained about some wolf.dll thing on bootup and then asked to plug into brand new car. So went and stuck it in my car and turned on ignition and it auto detected what car mine is. Then it went back to "please plugin to brand new car" screen and just stays there.

Plugged back into mac for navigon fresh to restore it as "V2 PID" device. Will see if that makes any difference (but its a 3.3gb download so will be a while)

I wouldn't advise people just dump files on the device and try and update, it's likely to have all kinds of problems.

Even if it appears to work initially it may have deeper problems. Does anyone have the model number of their Garmin device to help with my investigation?

Thanks for that,

Looks like the devices are running identical hardware except the Garmin device has 256MB RAM rather than the 128MB of the Navigon. Shouldn't be too much of a problem but it's possible in future the older device may have problems with added features, most likely freezing/juddering if they go nuts with new stuff.

It does mean that it should be possible to get everything (bluetooth etc) working.

When you say "shouldn't be too much of a problem" do you mean for yourself to do or for navigon to sort out? :p

Mines currently half way through the download process to "restore" to a V2 PID.

As long as we can get this update working I wouldn't even be bothered about any future stuff as the only thing I want is the guages. Everything else seems to work ok. Well apart from bluetooth handsfree calls because of the stupid location of the mic however no software update is going to fix that!

It appears to be trickier than I thought.

The most up to date software for the Navigon is 7.10.25.

The lowest available software version for the Garmin is 7.11.22

The only way to trick Fresh into updating is to tell it that your device has 7.11.22. The software update process doesn't seem to be a direct data dump onto the device so it doesn't like that it thinks it's going 7.11.22 -> 7.13.9 rather than 7.10.25 -> 7.13.9.

As mentioned previously there are also problems flashing the bluetooth module. It's possible the new device has a slightly different bluetooth module so the firmware is incompatible. That's the kind of thing that could lead to permanent bricking of at least he bluetooth.

Someone with more experience with Windows CE based devices may be able to get further than me. What I'm trying to do now is manually update whatever part of the software contains the gauges as this seems to be the main thing people are after. I'll see how it goes.

Side note but mines now stuck with this firmware on and I (stupidly) forgot to take a backup prior to d1cking about with it!

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be grateful! Even tried doing a full restore on navigon fresh etc and it's goosed!
