Got a 2012 1.2 fr ibiza with an ongoing and expensive saga.
Wondering if you guys could help before we spend even more money on it.
Car internal heating stopped working and car began to overheat when going over 50 mph. (light comes on as no temperature gauge).
Called AA who said suspect thermostat and car was recovered. Put it into the garage who agreed suspect thermostat which was changed and didn't fix the issue. Still overheating when driving over 50 mph and still no internal heating.
Car put back in the garage who flushed the entire cooling system, apparently checked the water pump and fitted new front/main radiator which has now solved the issue of the internal heating not working, but car still over heating.
Garage have also tested head gasket and said it's OK.
Out of desperation have just been out and tested the car from cold.
Started car and internal heating starts to warm and no water returning to the header tank and top main rad hose getting warm and bottom hose cold.
As car got more warm water returns to the header tank and bottom main radiator hose got hot. When all water pipes are really hot, radiator fan kicks in as expected.
While doing this I removed the cap from the header tank and gave all the hoses a good squeeze in case there was air in the system.
All looked OK so replaced the header tank cap and took for a drive.
Hit the motorway and as soon as I turned the internal heating to cool and nudged 70mph the over heating light came on.
I slowed down and put the internal heating back to hot to try and cool the engine, but on doing so no warm air? I toggled the warm /cold dial and after a couple of tries the warm air came on and the overheating light went off.
Seems the car is only overheating with the internal heating on cool?
Other than this the car is running well, pulls like a train and as far as I can tell isn't losing any coolant.
Garage want it back in and saying next step is to change the secondary electric water pump?
Any idea guys please. As it's my daughters partners car. They really need the car and don't have a lot of money to keep throwing at this and it's already cost them hundreds to still have the same fault.
Any help greatly appreciated
