have you had a bad experience? or just your overall opinion?

thanks

Seat uk are a joke from my experience. They don't give two ****s what crap they sell.

Me and the missus went to look at Fiesta titanium at weekend, along with every other supermini  fiesta blows them away, amazingly refined and well built. We looked at Polo, Ibiza and Fabia, and the only one that came close was the Fabia Monte carlo.

if i was doing high miles i wouldnt have a newish car, if your doing high milage then the value of your car is going to go thru the floor
if your wanting economy, get a ibiza with the old PD Lump
a rare find in a MK5 as it was replaced with the 1.6 pretty quickly but there are a few out there.

not as refined as the 1.6CR but its a solid engine, used is pretty much every VAG car over the last 6 or 7 years
im not sure if the mk5 1.9pd engine was fitted with a DPF i would assume so
my uncle has a VW Passat estate its a Wreg as hes a taxi driver and it has 348k on the clock
its still on all the original parts, altho he says the clutch is starting to slip, not suprised after driving the equivlent to the moon and half way back again......

i had a MK4 with a PD130 engine and it went like the clappers even stock! and still returned over 45mpg, driven carefully i would easy see 80mpg

if your looking at used you can find em for under 10k

Serg and Kahn have obviously had a rough experience with their cars, and I can sympathise with that from my Punto experience. It does tend to make you slightly bitter towards the brand. As I've said, I'd never buy another Fiat again....

However I am now on my 3rd Ibiza - I've had a 1.4 Ibiza Mk3 Chill, a MK4 Ibiza 1.9 FR TDI and currently have the MK5 Ibiza FR TDI. All-in I've had very few things go wrong with them, and any dealings with warranty issues were always handled speedily and professionally by my local dealer.

Forums by their nature do attract more people who want answers to problems they are having with their cars, or folk that are information gathering before deciding what to purchase. I was browsing this forum for a few weeks before joining to see what issues there were (if any) around the Ibiza model range. I quickly worked out that the variants to stay away from were the 1.4TSI models. They are quick but prome to engine problems! The 2.0TDI engine seems easily the most reliable power plant, and the newer 1.2TSI isn't far behind. Yeah it's only a 1.2 but it's turbo'd and feels more like a 1.8. Fuel consumption in real life is not too much different to the 1.6TDI.. The main issue that 1.6 TDI Ibizas have is the DPF issue if you are driving it mostly in town, and also the variable fuel consumption between identical cars... Thinking about the 1.2TSI, mabe you should take one for a spin. You'd be suprised! Anyway I liked the banter on the forum so much I decided to join! lol :)

The 1.6TDI always guarentees a heated debate! I have one and I like it, it's got plenty of torque, is refined, i get reasonably good MPG, average about 50-55mpg. If i drive at the same speed as the rest of the traffic I've seen it go as high as 65, but thats when trundling along at 45-50mph. In 24,000 miles I have seen the DPF light come on once!

What I will say is that despite all the above, the 1.9TDI is probably a better engine, no DPF so better for short journeys, decent mpg - not as variable as the 1.6's MPG. and can be remapped.

As for the Ibiza in general, it's not without it's common faults, but which car isn't? The only warranty work I've had done on mine is getting the boot handle replaced. It will also have to go in sometime for them to look at the squeaky drivers seat, small tear in the gear gaitor fabric and broken parcel shelf chip. Mechanically it hasn't skipped a beat, is very well specced and looks great. For me it was the perfect balance of style, performance and price. I wasn't looking outside the VW group so the Ibiza made the most sense.

Fiesta is a nice car, but a bit too common for me.

Too common for a reason.

The 1.9 TDI MK5 is rare as they only sold it briefly, pretty solid engine though if you can find one. Should be cheaper than the CR TDIs too.

I have 2 work colleagues and they both have Fiesta Zetec S models. One of them has had countless problems with it and swears that he'll never buy a Ford again, and the other has just had her clutch fail and the car has only done around 8K miles and is just 14 months old.... Ford refusing to replace it under warranty! Sometimes cars are popular because of brand loyaity, nothing to do with how good the car actually is.... However in fairness to the Fiesta it is a nice car and does drive well, but I could not live with an interior that looked like a cross between a Nokia mobile phone and a transformer. lol

As Mark says all cars have their faults, and it's on forums where most people air them.

Yes I agree with Mark. The 1.9TDI engine was a good one! Not as refined as the newer engines but it was bullet-proof, very economical for it's size and power output and was easily tuneable (mine was standard). No DPF to worry about as well!!! However I'm not sure if the 1.9TDI briefly in the MK 5 had a DPF bolted on or not...

Ford have nothing in the Fiesta that comes anyway near the VAG 1.2 TSI. The 1.4 is slower and less economical. The 1.6 is noisy, no quicker and even less economical. All of the Fiesta petrols are undergeared and rev. far too quickly in top when compared to the 1.2 TSI.

What's more there are so few options:- No cruise control except on the Titanium. No heated seat option. No headlight wash option. No tyre pressure monitor. No hill hold assist. No height adjustable passenger seat. etc. etc.

1.2 turbo... sounds like a recipe for massive bills somewhere down the line. But don't worry it has built in VAG reliability. Pull the other one.

Apart from a few very early teething problems with the 1.2TSI engine there have been no issues reported on either this forum, nor on any VW forum I have browsed. IMO they would have started to surface by now if there was going to be any mechanical grief.

Agreed - though it does depend, to an extent, what it is. VAG diesels get fairly decent prices regardless - people have this misconception they're bullet proof. There's quite a few Mk1 Leons, Mk4 Golfs and Skoda Octavias, ten years old with 150k going for £3k. A Fiat Stilo or Citroen Xsara etc with that sort of mileage would be worth scrap money. If you're going to do big miles and want a new car, VAG cars are the only sub-£15k cars that won't drop 90% of their list price once they have massive mileages.

I have a 1.6 tdi sport with 11k on the clock and apart from the dreaded mirror knob falling off ,have had no problems at all. It ia a cracking little car, quiet(you have a job telling its a diesel even on startup, unlike a bag of bolts Ford),refined ,good handling and acceleration, and average of 55 mpg (best of 63mpg)
I personally wouyld not touch a Ford with a barge pole unrefined ,noisey and I have yet to see an economical ford, they are all about five years behind with development

Unless of course they have over 100K on the clock and have a DPF fitted - in which case they will be avoided like the plague !!!!!

No one wants a £1000+ bill for a DPF replacement at the next MOT

DPF's are apparently rated for 120K miles under ideal conditions.
