remapping survey- reliability issues

Hello all, before i take the plunge and have my 2005 1.9 tdi fr 150 remapped, id be obliged if you all could state if you've done yours, and had any problems arise because of it, or if all has gone well....

was it dyno tested after... if so what was the power reading then?

ive made 2 enquiries for the belfast area, one is £250 all in, the other £250+vat.

im curious as i still hear that it could wreck ur car.

No problems here after the remap and done about 12k since it's been done. Lowest rr figure is 182bhp and highest 199! Dyno lottery...

P-Torque Remap (FR TDI 150)

Clutch slipped in 3rd/4th @ 1.9K RPM after 1K miles of remap.

Fitted new uprated clutch and all I can say is IM LOVIN IT!

Clutch is the thing putting me off - people say feed the power in slowly and problem solved - hmm thats not what I want a remap for! So if certain brands produce maps that mean the clutch won't slip they would get my money...

I'm led to believe Custom Code produce 'smooth' maps - I don't know if they are clutch friendly though!

I wouldn't let that put you off! Surely it's not unreasonable to expect you need to replace more frequently or uprate parts when you have increased power & torque output with a remap!! I have an 03 LCR (55k miles) now revo stage 2. It's still going on original clutch and has done track days. It's been stage 1 a couple of years and I think now stage 2 increased output and a track day has only just shown up clutch to be on it's way out. Not bad going for an oem clutch??

agree with bman i have had stage 1 2 and 3 and have changed bits to suit you have to realise that more power means more stress hence buying uprated parts for the job but a stage 2 on yours should give you next to no probs what so ever

they'll all do that to your car eventually doesnt matter who maps it

how much is a replacment/uprated clutch? i wouldnt mind doing that, just dont want the engine blowing up! or something really really dear to fix. i have the cash, but just dont wanna waste it.

Engine won't blow up! - A remap is a nice little boost but we are not talking about 300BHP.

My uprated clutch cost me £691 fitted.

There is a clutch lottery on who will need one and who won't need one, as you have seen some people have been on tracks and done 40k on the OEM clutch and its still going strong..

Then there are others like me who had a slipping clutch soon after remap without no track days etc.....and my car had only done 18.4k miles when the clutch needed replacing.

I think if you have a TDI then you seriously need to have the cash for a uprated clutch on standby, the torque from a remapped TDI is silly - the OEM clutch is working at its upper limit.

As you say some maps are supposed to be less harsh on the clutch - I went for one of these maps but still got slippage.

If I was to do it again I'd of gone for a new clutch 1st and them a remap

Mine had Custom code on it at aprox 4,000 miles.
Now done 33,000 miles and never once had clutch slip. Car is super smooth on power delivery and torquey all the way through the range. Catches so many big engined cars out all the time.
I can't speak for any of the others, but i would recommend CC if you were planning on getting one

My mate had his 54 FR 52k on the clock re-mapped by red line tuning last weeked and his clutch started to slip straight away, Though the Opo who did it did tell him and said he would take the tune off if he didnt want to replace the clutch. He kept the tune and it also slips in 3rd and 4th.

Has any one had this with a LCR?

Interesting point about the clutch! I was planning to get my LCR mapped in the next few weeks but money is tight and I certainly can't afford to be replacing the clutch at the same time or even just after... mines a 55 plate LCR with 33K on the clock - how likely is it that the clutch will go or should the LCR's clutch be a bit beefier than the FR and last longer?

new clutch probably soon now you said that traumapat, its allways the way lol, you probably jynxed yourself. anyway a stage 2 on a lcr should be findon oem clutch, its just the diesels that really need new clutches due to the high torque levels

Simple thing is, it's not stressing the clutch as much because it's not giving as much power as early on.

So you're making a slight compromise and some power to save the clutch a bit, which is still going to be put under more stress anyway.
