Just done mine today following this guide they look really good, just a little tip that may help others , to remove the old lacquer I used a air blower gun on my compressor which took all the loose and lifted alot more of the lacquer. Don't know if it will work for others but i just thought I would pass it on as its saved me ages.

Exactly what i did!! and i took the brake pads out too. Took ages to clean and prep. But look like new again now and im well pleaed with them:clap:

Did mine yeaterday!
I was changing the discs and pads anyway, so i thought i would give it a go.
I managed to find masking tape that was exactly the right size to cover the front and rear openings on the calipers. Took about 2 hours all in, i guess, but i was doing a full service as i let the lacquer go off between coats.
Really easy, and looks spot on!

Did my brembos yesterday.
Worked a treat! At first I thought I would need to paint them but I removed the laquer, sanded them down with 600-1200 grade paper (not too much!) then gave them 5 coats of laquer from halfrauds. Waiting 15-20mins between coats. Look brand new!

Ypu do not need to repaint callipers, even if they look faded, as I can guarantee they will look brand new if you just laquer! (unless theyr down to the metal that is)

;)TOP TIP: Remove laquer with a 0.10mm-0.20mm Valve Clearance Tool. Worked ace!!:p

Just looking through this thread and wondered if this caliper could be saved using the methods discussed?

Not the clearest of pics but it seems as if there's possbly a bit of damage there.

It's on a car I'm thinking of buying but don't want to fork out for new calipers (which are £hundreds from what I gather?)

Cheers for opinions:)

Have been doing one of my brembos today. Currently the car is on an axle stand allowing the caliper to get a full overnight dry. I'll look at in the morning and see if it's OK, if not I will rub it down a bit with some more wet & dry, and try another couple of hits.

Thanks to cutting my nails, I ended up using a gentle action with a flat screwdriver to get all my flaky paint off. This did leave some light scratches but after prepping the surface with damp wet & dry, they weren't noticeable really, and once the lacquer started going on they more or less vanished. I did have some chips on mine too which I attempted to patch with hammerite, but the colour match is not good but I suppose it's better than nowt.

Can get some pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the guide too! Spot on!

Well, I have one pic of the final result. I only did the nearside one as the offside one isn't getting bad yet, but I think it is only a matter of time but at least I now know what to do. :)

This is the offside one, following a disc & pad change yesterday - original brembo paint, no tweaking & not cleaned either.

and this is the nearside brembo which was fading badly and had poor peeling lacquer. A vast improvement for sure and even my bad colour match with hammerite isn't too obvious (little spot at 2 o'clock above the "O" in brembo)

Had a crack at mine at the weekend.

Pretty badly faded as you can see:

I took as much of the rest of the top coat off as possible (there were still a few 'join lines' but once sanded and lacquered they're not too obvious. Even just one coat of lacquer makes a huge difference:

and then 5 coats and a full wheel clean later:

To cap it all off - only took 5 minutes to get the jacking point cover back on :D

No extra tools needed - just the jack and wheel brace from the boot.

Lacquer, cleaner, masking tape and wet and dry paper - less than £15 in total.

Time - took me about 3 hours in total to do one caliper, but that's including cleaning the alloy and tyre and waiting the 15 minutes between each coat of lacquer.

Reckon I could do the others in a couple of hours - going to do one at a time whenever I have a free Saturday/Sunday morning :)
