Good luck, should easily get that lot done (just take care when putting the hub nut back on that you don't slip it & round the nut)

I've got the proper 6 sided socket for it now so should be ok, but I'll be careful with that one. The biggest problem is the top mount bolt I think, but will start soaking it in WD40 from tonight and hopefully it'll be ok. If I get time while it's on the stands I'm gonna change the oil too as it's been stood for so long. Treating her to some Synta Gold :D

Plan for Sunday is then to get the driveshafts, hubs, and front coilovers ( assuming I can get the old top mount bolts undone ) on the car so she can sit on 4 wheels again. Then I'm just two caliper brackets and some brake hoses away from having a drivable car again :funk:

The plans have changed brake wise, I've picked up a set of Leon Cupra R brembo brakes at a nice price so they're going on now [B)]

Hopefully I'll get my polishing kit soon as well so I can have a go at polishing out the salt damage on the TT comps and get them blinging again

Weather is looking good so far too...

I'll try and post some pics up on Sunday once she's sitting at a sensible height ;)

Went to see Vinesh at Eurotek yesterday and he got one of his guys to do my hubs and CV joints for a few quid :)

One slight problem, the ABS rig is different on the VR6 and sits further away. So I need to "modify" the upright a little with a grinder to bring them closer like on the golf. I'm not sure they will work at about 10mm away from the abs ring... Only downside is I bust both ABS sensors getting them out of the mountings  So I'll have to get another pair at GSF in the week.

Gonna mock up the hub again with the brembos to do some measureing and then try and get the old top mount strut bolts undone. I filled the top strut cup with WD40 on Friday so hopefully it'll have soaked in well now.

Oh and I've lost those metal links you put between two bolts on the inner CV joints I think. Anyone know if I really need those and if so would somewhere like GSF sell them?

B*ll*cks... It shouldn't be this difficult...

OK so I found the metal insert bits to go between the bolts on the CV joints. I got cracking with the angle grinder to get the ABS sensors closer to the ring. Nice, all going well...

And then I put the CV joints on the car...

As you can see the new CV joint boots must be bigger than the original ones, so now they are silly close to the bottom of the struts, and they rub on the ARB links. It's the same on both sides too :(

Any suggestions? I'm a bit stck now :(

Could you undo the small jubilee click and pull them further down the drive shaft, stretching the boot longer? Bit of a bodge, but...

get hold of smaller ones fron say a 1.4 or something they wont be as big as the driveshafts will be thinner, stretch them on, the overall circumference will be less than that, even stock and will not rub. Saying that, is the car dropped or sat on a jack? if its on a jack the boots will be even closer than that pete once you put the wheels on and remove the jack.

Well I found the problem...

I decided to take the whole lot off and have a better look especially as when I compared the boot I found from the old CV joint I noticed the ribs were more pointy than round. One of the CV joints popped off while I was trying to get the hub off again, I think I was a bit ham fisted

Anyway as soon as the shaft was off the problem was obvious...

They're quite different and when you compress them the original one compresses more. So I think I need to get a new CV boot kit. Thing is GSF show the same number for the golf VR6 ( the ones that don't work ) and the Cordoba 2.0 16v. But they list a different part number for the 1.8 16v/2.0/1.9d so I need to go into GSF and have a look at both to get the right ones.

At least I know that, once I've got over the CV boot problem, everything will fit together and work as planned. I've only had two problems really, the ABS sensors, and the CV boots.

Nearly there... :)

Nipped to GSF just now and got a pair of ABS sensors and another CV boot that is listed for the 1.8 16v, looks smaller but will need to check later when I get home. Only bought one and if it works I'll go get another one for the other side.

Got my ABS sensors modded this evening, so they fit perfect now

Also got the drivers side CV boot changed. The one I have now looks much smaller so should work perfectly :) Only problem is the one use clips that come with the new boots are just a bit too small. So I need to see if I can get a couple of slightly larger ones.
