I do respect what you are saying however I do disagree.I can't disagree with any of what you say, nor with any of what Jonjay says.
I too, feel peeved about the government stealing pennies from pensioners to give to incompetent banks. But compared to some countries we don't get too bad a deal for what we pay in taxes. I know someone who is on £60,000 a year cancer treatment. If we didn't pay it in fuel duties it would have to come from somewhere else.
There has never been a government with whom I did not disagree in some aspects, that's why voting for someone else, particularly in local government elections, will make no long-term difference. Yes, we could dump cows**t on town hall steps, a la francais, but would it make a difference? Like the wise man said, "It doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always wins."
What you basically said is that everyone should just yield and take whatever they get given by the government? That is rubbish.
At the end of the day we live in a democracy whereby everyone has a right to vote and make decisions. I will vote for the party to which will benfit me and my beliefs as should anyone. To say "oh well all of them are the same might aswell not vote and accept what I am given" is rediculous.
The way I see UK at the moment is this
* London is one of the most expensive cities in the world if not the most expensive
* The UK is ranked 52nd in the world for quality of life. 52nd in the world for a developed country like us is poor.
* Our public transports is one of the most expensive in Europe if not the world. It is also very unreliable.
* Our roads diabolical
* Taxed unfairly. Just look at the new car tax figures coming into effect. Congestion charge that has made no difference? Public transport that is not improving / improving fast enough. Fuel prices...food prices...you can go on and on.
* Inheritance tax is an absolute joke.
If my vote makes a difference then I will use it.
