I can't disagree with any of what you say, nor with any of what Jonjay says.
I too, feel peeved about the government stealing pennies from pensioners to give to incompetent banks. But compared to some countries we don't get too bad a deal for what we pay in taxes. I know someone who is on £60,000 a year cancer treatment. If we didn't pay it in fuel duties it would have to come from somewhere else.
There has never been a government with whom I did not disagree in some aspects, that's why voting for someone else, particularly in local government elections, will make no long-term difference. Yes, we could dump cows**t on town hall steps, a la francais, but would it make a difference? Like the wise man said, "It doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always wins."
I do respect what you are saying however I do disagree.

What you basically said is that everyone should just yield and take whatever they get given by the government? That is rubbish.

At the end of the day we live in a democracy whereby everyone has a right to vote and make decisions. I will vote for the party to which will benfit me and my beliefs as should anyone. To say "oh well all of them are the same might aswell not vote and accept what I am given" is rediculous.

The way I see UK at the moment is this
* London is one of the most expensive cities in the world if not the most expensive
* The UK is ranked 52nd in the world for quality of life. 52nd in the world for a developed country like us is poor.
* Our public transports is one of the most expensive in Europe if not the world. It is also very unreliable.
* Our roads diabolical
* Taxed unfairly. Just look at the new car tax figures coming into effect. Congestion charge that has made no difference? Public transport that is not improving / improving fast enough. Fuel prices...food prices...you can go on and on.
* Inheritance tax is an absolute joke.

If my vote makes a difference then I will use it.

Sadly ..... i paid (or rather the company fuel card paid) 129.9p for diesel this afternoon ... that made it a lovely £71 for around 52 litres ... (cannot remember exactly).

Crazy old world out there at the moment

what about this bio diesel stuff. you can buy kits to start making your own. is it any good in our engines or does it cause problems long term. because the prices at the moment is just out of this world. cant get my head round the amount its gone up in the last couple of years.

Coxy, wasn't Derek Conway the main one ?, he's a Tory. :D

they're all bloody highway men/women but these days they have the front to take their masks off; more's the pity.

It's about time a viable alternative was formed that would gain the general respect of all UK people. The Lib Dems prove how hard it is to challenge the big parties, but then I'm not sure they really try that hard to relate to UK voters in a sincere and grass roots level.

I'm not sure you can become a politician if you weren't a scheming, spinning, lying, back handing, greedy, self effacing tw@t so you will always end up with a load of irreverent shallow pools of pi$$ flushing through the streets of Westminster.

as much as i want to defend Labour, you're right, they're all bleeding at it

Voting Conservative Labour, or any other party (I have no preference for any really) is like Russian roulette.

The distance between the parties is so small. It's like choosing between death by hanging, shooting yourself in the face, or electrocuting yourself in the bath. None of them is appealing, and all of them have a bad outcome, and you know they'll all hurt you. Thank god we vote so infrequently, I couldn't cope with stitching myself up more than a couple of times a decade!

If the prices continue to rise then I may have to tell my work that I can't afford the travelling to work (1200miles a month just to get to work) and have to work from home a day a week to try and alleviate the burden.

The thing I have noticed is that the price of other transport (i.e. the train) has risen sharply as well so i'm f***ed if I do and f***ed if I don't

This makes perfect sense at times like this. It aids congestion, saves you money on fuel and mileage depreciation / wear and tear, BUT and this is the big but, SOME managers can't cope if there aren't people in the office to poke and bark at. They have no function and it makes them feel disempowered to the point where they fear they will look excess to requirement. Whilst they can look busy and in control of their team they look viable. If you have forward thinking Management who can supply you with the appropriate technologies to work successfully at home it is the way forward.

Well I am working from home today (got some new tyres being delivered for SWMBOs Furby) and have done several times. My manager seems pretty good about this sorta stuff and we have decent VPN facilities.

I have even brought some of the test equipment home with me so I can do my work and take it back in.

I like working from home every once in a while

Fed up of paying stupid amounts now, this country is raping us for all we have.

And the oil companies announce record profits........again.........for the quarter.

I appreciate that we are capitalists, free trade etc. But, both the oil companies and the govt. have us by the short and curlies.

Not to mention the useless banks.

Understand exactly where you are coming from on all accounts.
I have tried to speak with my boss about 1guy a day from our team works from home - saves me pennies; looks good for company carbon initiative rubbish and i'll probably get more done, but was told "no way under any circumstances will this happen".
Feel like quitting and going on doll.

In reality I couldn't do more than a day I think due to me needing to be in the lab and on our test machines etc but a day would allow me to do all that dreaded admin etc!

It would also mean I'd be able to lose 240miles from my monthly mileage which would be around £30ish which would be over £300 a year :-o
