Thank you friend. Hopefully she will look better when new FMIC is showing behind the grill. :)

Head has been ported. I was very close to placing my order for cam and injectors but had to put that on hold. It will happen just not this coming month or next. Watch this space I will be progressing the engine work further.

I cant believe I missed the RR day but was booked in at AmD on the 21st (the next day) to have my brakes finally sorted - How ironic! Another time for sure. :)

Maz your car is outstanding - I need to see and here it one day for real...

Liam.

Stunning car; an inspiration. Looking into getting better IC hoses like yours so will give the company a call soon to discuss. :)

EPIC FAIL

Today I was a little bit bored so I decided to remove the center console plastic trim and polish it up. It looked pretty good when I first got it back from body shop but over years got some scratches and paint started to bubble.

blckcentreconsole2.jpg

The process I chose was:

1) Wipe down with QD
2) Wet sand with 2000 grit
3) Wet sand with 3000 grit
4) Dry with microfibre
5) Machine polish with a finishing polish and polishing pad
6) Refine with finishing pad

All my equipment sitting ready:

Aim of the above was to refine and flatten the paint so it looks much more factory looking.

30minutes later.....

Well lets say it didn't work out that well  Paint was too thin so I managed to strike through. Also its too fiddly to machine polish and having a machine polisher near to the privates trying to hold the console still is worrying.

So now thats fubared going to have to get it sent of to a pro body shop again to be redone when cash is freed up. Stuck in the a spare matt black OEM one I had lying around.

James23Parkin: fancy a challenge?

Hi Maz,

You must be joking… hahah... I’ve been sanding all bloomin’ day and still no further on… actually the plastics are coming on rather well, but just taking forever.

It actually sounds like you’ve started doing the hard work by wet sanding it. Honestly Maz, why not have a go? If it doesn’t work out, then you can send it to be done.

I’ve started to use U-Pol Professional spray paint. I like the finish of matt black with a good clear coat. The good thing about U-Pol is that it sprays thinly and evenly as it’s charged to a high PSI. I buy it from eBay for six or so pounds for a 500ml can. I’m not sure if they do piano black, but I’m sure there will be a few manufactures selling it in this colour, if that’s the colour you had/want.

Lots of prep, thin and even coats, given adequate time to dry in between coats and a few clear coats to offer durability; it might be worth giving it a go? You've clearly got a keen eye and patience. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

jonjay: Fancy a challenge??

James:)

If all else fails, I can look at it for you Maz, I will be doing my dash all again in the near future, especially now the wheels are being sorted this weekend!

MOT, TAX, Service and more cleaning

Not much has been progressing since I curbed the modding with the car. I have got the MOT and small service coming up start of next week so will take the opportunity to fit the LHD dual view mirror meaning I will have dual view on both sides which is handy. I also purchased OSRAM Nightbreakers (version 2) for the main beam. I found the old main beams when flashing were not powerful enough so hopefully these should do better.

I have been on the cleaning offensive recently to take my mind of modding and planning what I would like to do with the car. I have purchased few new products which I am looking forward to using that should be arriving by end of the month. Sunday just gone, I went a little bit OCD cleaning the car. Got some longs brushes, cleaned the suspension arm and springs, all the arches de-tarred, de-greased and dressed with a protectant. I have also put on an additional coat of sealant on alloys until they are Crystal Lacquered with nanolex or gtechiq.

As the weather was pleasant I cleaned out all the interior too. Gave the matts a good hoover as well as the Seats a good hoover and wipedown with APC. Got my special Japanese sticky roller and made so no hair or dirt was left anywhere. There is a reason to my madness and this is because I have purchased some Chemical Guys Fabric Guard to treat all the interior from any spills / dirt that may try to penetrate the fabric. Obviously better treating a clean surface so it works better. All interior plastics got an APC wipe down and I dressed them with a new Rubber and Plastic treatment from Valet Pro which I forgot I had. I left the main dash matt as I do not like any products going on it. All the other plastics have a very light sheen (not shiny) now which looks nice but the main thing is they are protected now.

The exterior was given a good clean. More maintaining the current finish so used my maintenance shampoo that contains wax to keep the protection underneath fresh. I must stress for anyone who is interested, it is always good to have several shampoos for different type of cleaning jobs. For example 1 for giving car good clean, second for all round wash and the 3rd for maintaining a finish thus making it last longer. I finished off the cleaning of the car with a spray of Ziano Z-6 Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray.

Here is a little caption and the highlight for me on this product
Z-6™ Gloss Enhancer Spray forms a tough molecular bond to all Zaino Show Car Polishes to increase gloss, optical clarity, slickness, and protection from the sun and elements. In addition to helping give your car a three dimensional, its antistatic formula will reduce dust and dirt pickup by 60%.

Anti-static properties of this product is really good. Came back today and the car still looked like I just washed it. I barely saw any dust setting on the car and the gloss was insane. Expensive for just a detail spray but worth using every now and again.

To finish of Sunday the neighbour (who crashed into my Mrs car while reversing) ask me to give his car a good clean. I explained to him what could be done and he said he was fully aware of my work and often watched me doing my car and other ones. Scary! Anyway doing his next Sunday so will do a write up.

Maintenance is the way forward.
Car sounds like its in show condition ;)
I'd like to think it is always in show condition Willie :) You know me, I dont ever let the car get into a state. Clean all the seals, trim, areas where dirt builds up regularly. Always maintain levels of protection to keep car looking clean. It gets fully detailing twice a year if I get the time and I do drive the car - do around 5k a year.

Toyo T1-R

Falkens finally got near the change point and rather than risk putting them through MOT I got some new shoes on her. I have Toyo T1-Rs on all round and as I stated previously they work so so so well on deisels. Even though the compound is soft and they wear slightly quicker than other brands their strong sidewalls and sticky rubber deal with the torque amazingly well. Havent really put them through their paces but car feels different with them on. Grip Grip Grip Grip Grip....full review to come soon.
