Does anyone know the thread pitch required for a sandwich plate for oil cooler for lcr? Also do you get a bigger pressure drop the larger the size of cooler?

Alright neil,

dont know what the thread pitch is but I got mine from thinkauto think its an OTSP1C with built in thermostat.

3/4UNF filter with tapped 1/2 BSP rings a bell tho.

Pressure drop should be minimium, but your best bet is to remove the donut heat exchanger as this will add to pressure drop. Otherwise you will have to use a shorter filter if your using std heat exchanger and take off plate together.

looking into it just now. Spoke to amd who have done a kit on a 225 tt. Looks to be enough room to keep standard filter with sandwich plate. Thinking of putting oil cooler behind seat badge...looks to be plenty room there. Just fitted oil temp gauge and it is running about 120 normally peaking at 150 when driving fairly hard. Dread to think what it was when i spent a day at the nurburgring!

What guage did you get? I'm thinking about one myself maybe a spa dual guage.

You want the take off plate with the thermostat, otherwise your oil will never reach temperature. Thats thicker than the std take off which could cause a problem.

put in an autogauge as we sell them. sandwich plate is about 1.5 inches i think which still gives the filter room before the lower intercooler pipe. If i used a fmic it would give even more room.

was intending getting one with the thermostat built in. Looked at spa gauges as they are really cool but couldnt justify the cost. Still waiting to hear back from amd. Was intending going for mocal 10 or 13 row oil cooler

I use a Mocal cooler supplied & fitted by AmD, thermostat ( built in to sandwich plate ) operating temp is 80 deg.

Normally fitted on the otherside on a TT as there is more room but I didnt want it to interfere with my forced air feed.

Still have the OEM cooler.

Have had no problems with pressure drop & IIRC its a 16 row.

I am not that keen on mounting anything other than a FMIC in front off the rad myself.

To be honest its not something I have logged for a long time, it reduced temps under testing after fitting & I kinda forgot about it & moved on to the next mod.

I should check it more often really...

have phoned amd 3 times now and emailed them and they still havent replied. Going to measure it myself and order parts from demon tweeks. It would appear that it is 3/4 unf thread. I am going to keep the original cooler and mount the mocal one at the front where a fmic would usually go. I think that there is still plenty of air flow to rads as oil cooler is nowhere near the size of fmic.

A quick question how do you get all the oil out the cooler on an oil change? Just disconnect the pipe?

Hmm a good question indeed !

I have all full services done by AmD as I am lazy so cant comment on as to whether they actually do disconnect the pipe to drain, its accessible by just removing a few screws a pealing back the wheel arch liner.

I feel that probably they wouldnt bother with them knowing I change the oil myself every 4 to 5K so overall the oil is always pretty fresh even with being mixed the small amount the cooler & associated pipework hold.

I dont think it will be a problem, I have not heard of others draining the cooler..

Oh one more question :)

Do you have to prime the cooler on first start up?

Cause i calculated my cooler holds 1.2L of oil excluding the lines
