the rear has 3 settings and i think i may give it a go to try them , once there on its not a big job to adjust them and run the same road as a control , do this a lot on bikes i have had.

better get the cg lock nice and tight then . lol.

Fair play, great write up. Just wondering what the difference is between the neuspeed bar for the cupra and the LCR.
If i decide to get the ARB'S first then am i gonna have a problem with changing the suspension.
Sure ive read somewhere that the LCR suspension have a different mounting bracket on the suspension leg. Is this true and is it worth getting suspension first that will take the LCR ARB's.
p.s mines a 04 cupra

I'm in the minority I think as I went for a 22mm front and a 25mm rear both Neuspeed. I've got the rear on the middle setting. I enjoy a good thrash but also cruise a lot with the family onboard so didn't want to get too extreme. The bars have totally transformed the handling but not sure how it stacks up to a 25mm front and 28mm rear.

@ pete8tch - Did you got for 25mm front and 28mm rear?

Good write up btw.

We will agree to disagree once again :D

I agree with Speedsix that the car has a far more 'neutral balance' giving you the ability to adjust the car through the bend on the throttle with far more certainty i.e, not wondering if the back end will snap round and bite you.

IMO the S3 strut brace sharpens the intial turn in a little which also gives more confidence and a better feel as to what the front tyres are doing.

Speedsix - what you will enjoy is watching std civic type-R's and the like follow you into roundabouts and wondering how the hell you went through with no fuss when they are :drive1: .....

Stock front, 25mm rear also gave a more stable neutral balance (again, with stock suspension) and certainly removed that horrible wafty/wandering rear end - like you say removed that feeling that it was going to snap at any moment.

I felt the extra front stopped it rolling so much at the front that it didn't dig-in.

Anyway, Neuspeed sell the two different sizes for a reason... Choice is good.

Plus, you're bigger than me

I believe they also sell a 'Race' blue coloured 32mm rear so that's three sizes :p

I was told time and again by various people that a 25mm front ARB would make the car undrivable because it would understeer off into the bushes at every bend....and indeed in the wet apparently my car would be like manouvering a supertanker.......I have a two word answer to that "Utter Tosh"

My views on the fornt ARB are concurrent with this Gentleman's findings;-

I will state again for the hard of reading the front Strut Brace also helps sharpen turn in and promotes confidence

Adding a thicker front on it's own will increase understeer but it's the relative thickness front to rear that is all that matters, you are moving grip not losing it. Stock car has a thicker front than rear ergo, understeer. Swapping the front for a 25mm and adding a 28mm to the rear (with the stock rear) gives much less understeer because the rear is now thicker than the front. Some people really struggle with this concept as you've found out :)

You're not losing any grip atall, in fact your transferring alot of unused grip off the rear and onto the fronts where it's needed most.

A car doesn't roll more at one end than the other unless it's bending in the middle!

People said 25mm front 28mm rear would promote understeer too

I disagree

then what do I know ;) I only did 20k miles in an LCR with them fitted :cartman:

(perhaps arm wrestling at the next SCn official event will be the answer to resolving this question....:cartman: )

lol and all this assumes that either the LC, LCTdi or LCR has a rear bar in the first place :)

Changing front 22mm for 25mm and adding a rear 25mm bar is going to be a big improvement when you consider there was nothing controlling the rear in the first place :)

It's not something that's open to interpretation really, it's just science and anyone that says otherwise is plain wrong and I give you permission to slap them about a bit

Very very happy with 25mm front / 28 mm rear and standard shocks/springs.

Really transformed the car and made it much more enjoyable to drive, everyday as well as a B-road thrash...

Having mine fitted monday cant wait :) getting coilovers too, on wed with the moffmiester :) I agree with Rudd on the upper strut brace, i fitted front and rear, and it made a hell of an improvement. Worth the 50 odd quid, if your gonna spend 350 odd on ARB's, why not finish the job.
