Model Year 23/24 My 2023 formentor experience

Purchased my Formentor in June 2023, and picked it up September 2023
It’s a V2 1.5 with optional sunroof, safety and driver pack XL and graphene grey paint from Swindon Cupra

Within the first 3 months, I had to take it back due to suddenly losing the ability to control my sunroof, after booking in for a Saturday morning fix, leaving my house at 7am, driving 1.5 hours to make sure I got there earlier, I got a phone call as I’m pulling up to the dealership to say they actually don’t have a technician coming in, 1.5 hour drive home, 100 miles, and £30 of fuel down, I was still in the same position.
I was then booked in to come back 2 weeks later, to have a new sunroof control panel fitted.

After getting the control panel fitted, the issues seemed to resolve themselves, until November 2024, when suddenly the car started making outbound phone calls to customer care and breakdown, as well as freezing up the control panel making it unable to cancel them off, or enable interior lighting.
It was then booked back into the same dealership to have it looked at.
This time they came to collect the car, but no loan car.
After giving them strict instructions not to wash the car, and making sure it was written on the paperwork, I was told it would return that evening.
I then got a phone call at 3pm to say they decided to keep it an extra day, as they hadn’t actually got round to diagnosing it, I finally got it returned on Friday evening, and which point I was told, someone will be in touch to organise getting the control panel replaced, again.
First thing I noticed was that the car had in fact been washed, and various scratches now put into the paintwork.

I phoned up the dealership to ask why it had been washed, at which point I was told it hasn’t been, they have no record of it being washed, so my complaint was ignored as they had nothing to ‘attach the complaint to’.

The car was then taken back in to have a new control panel fitted, and I was given another phone call to say that the control panel is in, but the sunroof doesn’t work, so they’ll need it again for another week in the future to get that sorted.

Last week, the car finally went back in for the sunroof issue, and I received it back with a working sunroof, and no phone calls being made from the car.

But, they’ve since somehow disabled the projectors from moving up when the car goes into high beam mode.

Another phone call to the dealer, and they don’t think it’s related; is a new fault, and therefore needs to go back again for more fault finding.

I’ve raised a complaint with the dealership, but effectively been told I either take it back for them to try fix it again, or take it elsewhere.

So I’m now 600+ extra miles, and £200 in fuel out of pocket, and having to send it back to the dealership again, because they’ve somehow managed to break something else on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can escalate my complaint, or anything else I can do?

Massively fallen out of love with the car now, and truthfully just want rid.

You could try escalating with Cupra HQ, or find somewhere else to take it I guess. Cupra dealerships being thin on the ground I'm guessing your only alternatives would be Bristol or Oxford, unless SEAT dealers can do warranty work on Cupras?
Sorry your experience has spoiled your enjoyment of the car; it sucks when that happens

Ive not raised it with Cupra UK yet, but I may well do if the dealership don’t come back with much.

I’ve also been unable to use the mycupra app for about 6 months too, same error every time about too many failed logins

Just seen another post about oil level and it’s reminded me

Are these cars known to drink oil? I reckon I’ve done 2ish litres of top ups in 17000 miles

From my experience you have to add oil after 12,000-13,000 km. Since I do regular maintenance (and oil change) every 15,000 km, it means that I have to top up about 1/2 kg between each maintenance intervals.

Two months ago I replaced it with the 2025 model. It arrived from the factory with oil level around 1/3, so after 5,000 km I had to top up some oil...

Your mistake is not involving the parent company from the word go, in my experience (whether it be Ford, BMW, Audi or even Vauxhall) is that dealers will do everything to drag their heels, fob you off or do things on their terms cos as long as the parent company are not involved then they are not answerable to anyone. Two instances of where I got the manufacturer involved was on a brand new M135i with an inherant fault on the rear diff - it went back in 6 times in seven months and in the end I had BMW for breach of the pcp agreement and had them for £1k in damages, similarly last year when Audi delivered a brand new S3 to me with paint defects, the dealer admitted they hadnt PDI'd the vehicle prior to handover but were dragging their heels, got Audi C/S involved who eventually pressured the dealer into sorting the issues after 2 months of chasing and £500 in compensation for my "experience".

So its best to involve the manufacturer at the earliest point - dealers dont like it cos its then on them to act with someone now monitoring the situation.

Can't find one, but the Motor Ombudsman lists a snailmail address for them:
CUPRA Customer Service Centre,
PO Box 9004,
Leeds,
LS1 9WA

Thank you!

Managed to find a seat email address listed which is recommended, so have raised it there and will see how that goes!

Is there no phone number for Cupra? Normally Customer service is part of the options when you ring them?
Failing that - get on Facebook and contact them on there - they're pretty quick to respond when someone posts their grievances on the Cupra Facebook page!

There’s a number on their site, but I prefer email to ensure everything is written down and captured correctly :)

Unfortunately I’m not on Facebook, otherwise I would have gone down that route!

I have managed to now get booked in with a different dealer on the 8th April, much better than the 1st May originally mentioned by Bristol
And the complete silence from Swindon!

There's always a can of petrol and a box of matches....only kidding ;)

The most annoying bit is the fact the dealerships are still 20+ miles away from me

Otherwise, it would be annoying but not end of the world

April 1st the summer car will come out, so the Cupra will be sat around not doing much I expect for a few months

An update for anyone still interested!

I’ve managed to snag myself a lovely pre-reg 1.5 leon PHEV
The Cupra will be getting traded in

I’ll still continue with my complaint through cupra UK, but the offer was too good to miss!

The trouble is my VZN has an iffy sunroof control panel I was going to get it addressed when it goes in for service in 3 months but when I hear things like this I tend to think leave well alone, the map reading lights can come on of their own accord and you can`t turn them off and on a hot day the sunroof has a mind of its own!
What have I bought, I don`t want it back with more problems than it went in with!

Weird seeing you over here!

My RX8 has had far less issues than this thing

I’m onto the 3rd control panel since getting the car
I wouldn’t mind it as much if it just stopped working a bit

But it’s the calling out to customer care and breakdown I didn’t like

What annoys me is that this control panel fault has been around for a while and on my VZN the fault occurred in the summer last year at only 12 months old so why are they still fitting faulty panels even the warranty replacements it seems!

I was out yesterday a lovely sunny day I thought should I open the sunroof - no don`t just in case I haven`t got time to play with it if it plays dead whilst its open!

After 4 - RX-8`s the main problem has been very poor dealerships!
