six grand, 220bhp ITB setup then. it's a no brainer if it's all or nothing

I opened the door wide open for that one didnt I.

i remember a sprint day at bentwaters and some chump pitched up in what he claimed was a "200+bhp" clio 197 and he got eaten alive by cars with less than 150bhp

sounds about right,

I said it all in my first post. I love my car...the only way i am parting with it is if its taken off me. I dont want to buy a clio just want to turn my car into someting a bit special.....anyways.

Anyone help with my supercharger question ?

I couldnt do it, all those drivers are the same. utter prats.....The way they drive disgusts me.

Hopkinsgm,

cheers for that mate, I pretty much knew that cams were the way to go i just wanted to make sure there wasnt something else out there that is really cool that i dont know about. Havnt looked into a supercharger yet though. I know a lad who supercharged one... ( well a friend of a friend of a friend )...would just need to find out the cost involved ??

I just think all or nothing.....Ive taken my car this far.

good man thats the way i feel about my car to :)

in all honesty, a supercharger is about the same cost as a 20VT, without the OEM reliability.

Same with the cams etc

What's your budget?

Thinking about it, you don't always need to make a bigger bang to get more power. The other option is to make the same size bang but do it when the engine is turning faster. Because power is a product of torque and rotational speed, if you can develop the same torque at higher revs and you'll get more power. The problem with this approach is making the engine turn faster - you'd need to make the bits of the engine that spin lighter and/or better balanced, and obviously if the engine is spinning faster, the bang needs to happen faster (and that's not a trivial problem to solve either). Engines that rev a bit do sound ace though.

So all things considered, it's easier to make a bigger bang.

Do consider that going for while lumpy cams may give you more power, they could also make for a lousy idle and destroy the low speed drivability. It's not so bad these days but there's still a balance to be struck - at low engine speeds, the engine will still need the same amount of air as it does now, so the air speed slows right down, and that can give you all sorts of headaches.

doesn't RobT run over 200bhp on his valver... (although is that bored out to a 2.1 though.. I can't remember)

Yes, RobT's makes very good power but it's not exactly a daily driver, and it's not ABF based. It also wasn't cheap.

oh interesting, what is the spec of it, I thought it was an original (well as much as it can be)2.0 16v ABF engine.....

don't think rob ever had an ABF in his ibiza. It started out as a 1.816v then went 9A then onto the one he has now, which iirc is a diesel block(that will confuse some)

Thats one reason why i picked 180 as a figure becuase the car is my daily drive to work and i didnt think it was to much.

I'd say my budget is a good £2k

hahaha
I've got plans for mine, but to also keep it as usable etc. I'd go down the 1.8t route, but then how reliable are they??

I think I am going to try and avoid an engine conversion as I know the history of my engine and its low mileage.

What’s the deal with second hand Cams ? are they any good or is it best to avoid them ? Stepping up the hunt as from now.

…also…can anyone recommend a good place to have my inlet manifold polished up ?

If you going to pay some to do it then you looking at 2k+ I had all my engine work done at Stealth Racing..... people have said that his rollers run a bit high, I had 190. something (says on my sig) and I had the car run on another set of roller (westec) when they were open and it pulled 190bhp there as well.

I got 268 Schrick cams, p&p head, 3 angle cut valve thing lol and then a remap.... the car rev's to 7.5k now and from what I have read that is bascially the limit the bottom end can take!

Car's like Clio 182, etc.... don't keep up, the 1st night I had my car back from stealth racing I had a scooby pull me over asking what was in my car because he couldn't catch me. And as a track car, it's more fun than I ever had in the car!! Totally different to what it's like on the road!

MPG...... well, I now class 22mpg good and drivin thru town (stop and start) I have seen as low as 16mpg, on the motorway going at 60-70mpg I can get 32mpg.

I would say get a 4-1 manifold 1st and wiv the decat it should go well! Or you could look at the cheaper options 1st, 3.94 final drive, lighten flywheel? Them together cost me £570 in total thats wiv a new final drive but I do know a mate that rebuild gearboxes so had that done cheap!

Think of getting a LSD (well ATB diff) I managed to get a peloquin one for £545 but can't tell you if it's any good yet because my car is still on axel stands lol

Have you thought about speaking to TSR??

They do whole engines that come with Warranty, although not sure of BHP figures I know the 1.9 engines produce 185BHP so the 2.1 Tall block they do must be a little more with bucket loads more torque think they are about £3,500 fitted but like I say you do get a 12,000 mile warranty.

This is the route I reckon I'll take to be fair once I've got the Chassis & Brakes how I want them (although being back on the road will be a good start) add this to a gearbox with a lower final drive and LSD and you'll be laughing will work out nearly £5K with the gearbox but like yourself I love these cars and will be keeping it for the long term!!

Brilliant Dave, that’s the type of info I need. Top Man !

Where do I get such parts as a lighten flywheel from and what is a 3.95 final drive ??

When I had a quote from the JP exhaust for £500 + for a 4-2-1 manifold I thought its was a joke, but I am now begging to understand that its probably a fair price and having that added before I go and splash on cams is maybe the right thing to do. I should be able to go for that in the new year.

Does anyone know the time scale it takes to have a manifold made & fitted ?

Cheers again Dave

The flywheel I had done by a member of ClubGTi, HotGolf go on there and pm him!

The final drive if you can find a 2nd hand with on fitted then get it taken apart and remove it but I was havin trouble wiv that bit and the luck I have it will be f*cked as well. If you search for 3.96 Final Drive and my username you will find all the part numbers you need.

If I was you and it might save you the £2k on the engine get a manifold 1st and see how you feel about the car then. I know all engines are different but with a induction kit, manifold, decat and SS system mine pulled 170bhp, have a look on the readers ride and everything I've done to the car over the years is in it!

You legend Dave !

Right i will do that.

will defo get a manifold then before i go down the cam route. If the manifold gets me to around the 170 mark high 160's then i will be happy.

I wonder wonder wonder if i can get some place to maybe do a discount as i know i am not the only one looking at a manifold.

All this info is gold dust...thaks

apart from the clio link....:cartman:
