Right,

That is my quest. My car is going no where and time / mileage is on my side. I own it out right and dont want anything else. The only way its leaving me is if it gets nicked or crashed.

Last weeks RR gave me a 155 off a decat / SS ex system and open filter...I have taken all of your sugestions on board and will be putting a cold air feed in and buyin some mega leads and the getting it re tested.

But how do i get there and what is the best way ??

I know its going to cost me £££££ and i dont care. I know buyin a 20v T would be cheaper but i dont want a 20v t !

I need idea's and advice please.

cheers
Dan

ok,

from having read through the searches i'd be looking at a fast road cam and about £650 ??

threads ive read suggest polished head work ????

I know the gains are only small but whats involved in modding a throttle body ?

Cheers

porting it out and making it abit bigger and maybe smoother. im assuming its tedious and gains are fairly minor. might be worth it if you can pick up a spare throttle body just incase you fook it up or it doesnt work.

i would say, without turboing or supercharging the engine, then ITBs are your best bet mate, F2 Stu and RobT have both gone past the 220bhp N/A mark, so 180 would be easily achievable.

A Decat would help release some hidden stallions and maybe think about......

NITROUS!!!! :D

What are ITB's ??

Got a DECAT already.

Last week when i was talking about my RR results a few people said about giving it new sparks, the mega leads,ect...and a general good service as i think the last time i took it to a HUGE performance place they scammed me a bit. Sadly this is the price i pay for not being very mechy / techy....want to get better though.

I want to do this properly and not rush it. Like i say time is on my side. Ive had to give up downhill moutain biking since my crash in september and have sold my bike and all my kit and raised £700 from doing so. The money should really go towards my wedding next year.....but nah...will make my car faster instead !

180bhp is the limit of the standard inlet manifold. Cams, head, remap & tubular exhaust manifold. Job done

And you'll not be much quicker, but you will wish you'd not spent £2k on engine work & had invested it in quality wheels, tyres, suspension, ARB's & Brakes instead

Sticking throttle bodies on without further engine work would be a waste of time and money. You might squeak a little more power but nothing significant. As with just about all engine mods, isolated changes will net you very little - it needs to be part of a package of mods.

To get more power, you need to make a bigger bang in the cylinder. To achieve that, you need to get more fuel and air into the cylinders. More fuel isn't usually too much of a problem, but getting more air in is the tricky part. The standard ways of doing that are to:
- keep the inlet valves open for longer
- open them wider while they are open
- fit larger valves, though I'm pretty sure that's not an option on the ABF
- use a supercharger or turbocharger to pressurise the inlet and force more air in that way.

Long and short of it is that lumpy cams and a remap will be required, along with a little tidying up of the head casting and matching the ports on the heads to the manifolds to make the air's path into the cylinder as smooth as you can.

Chrisdaman, clio = pocket rocket though mate

I couldnt do it, all those drivers are the same. utter prats.....The way they drive disgusts me.

Hopkinsgm,

cheers for that mate, I pretty much knew that cams were the way to go i just wanted to make sure there wasnt something else out there that is really cool that i dont know about. Havnt looked into a supercharger yet though. I know a lad who supercharged one... ( well a friend of a friend of a friend )...would just need to find out the cost involved ??

I just think all or nothing.....Ive taken my car this far.

also, I challenge any clio 172/182 ect to make even "book" power on the rollers! i remember a sprint day at bentwaters and some chump pitched up in what he claimed was a "200+bhp" clio 197 and he got eaten alive by cars with less than 150bhp. both on the straight and in the bends! also, with regards to what mork said about 180bhp being the limit, iirc in an issue of pvw/golf+ mag, one of the staff members bought a cordy sx with an old tsr flowed head, threw on some schrick cams (everything else standard) and it made 181bhp. no tubular manifold, no modded t/b nothing esle done at all.
