How do you clean your Seat

My mother washed her Mitsubishi Colt every w/e in a car wash until she passed me the car after 5/6 years. Couldn't see out of the window there were so many little scratches. At night it was like a starburst. As to the paintwork....

To be fair, I used to hand wash all my cars, but after the third heart attack it simply isn't possible any more. I'd love to be able to take better care, but unless someone offers to do it for me it isn't gonna happen! That's why I only run it through the car wash every few weeks or so. I figure its better to keep it dirty than use the car wash every week and suffer the consequences... And I'd rather not wash it at all than trust the foreigners who do those handwashs on every street corner!

Does not compute.

But I guess it depends on whether you care for your car or not? Me, I get a lot of satisfaction cleaning and protecting paintwork on my cars. I don't want to trust that to others.

There are plenty of superb detailers who will do a great job for a price, but I enjoy doing it myself.

Most Fridays I end up washing or helping to wash the works van and a couple of HGVs at work so I don't really feel like washing my own car on Saturday morning I may sometimes use the pay as you go preasure washer (hose down and cold shampoo spray then rinse off I never use the brush) on a Saturday afternoon , but other wise I know a good valet that I use every few months

I wash it by hand with Meguiars stuff, wash mit and two buckets of water (one with cold and one with warm + wax schampo) after that using a water magnet towel and then a microfiber towel.

Next week when the summer tyres go on im gonna do a polish and then use quick wax on it. Unfortunately my car is black and even though i've been really cautious when washing my car in direct sunlight you can see some fine scratches, guess its impossible to not get minor scratches?

Pretty much buddy. Even if you are super careful it is inevitable. The only product I have found which is really any good at hiding them is zaino z5. Just recently come across this as my previous cars were light and had much tougher paint so did not really show them.

The zaino is your sealant too so it is not hugely time intensive. I do it once every 4 weeks.

I have my weekly wash under an hour including getting everything out and putting it back away - snowfoam, rinse, snowfoam, wash (twin bucket, microfibre mit), rinse, dry with a plush microfibre, tyres with gtechniq, glass with fast glass and rain x. Then then the obligatory faffing about folding and unfolding the mirrors to get the trapped water out!

This is the result of the above (3 weeks and about 2k miles since last full wash and wax):

I'm planning on give the beast a wash today as the sun is shining. Only had it 3 days and already filthy. That what you get for driving around in a oversized bumblebee but it's worth it. I've never polished a car before so I bought a polishing pad. Is it sad to be excited about washing you car?

I find the snowfoam works better if you do not pre-rinse.

Cheers will try it that way today only just got it, so last week was first time I tried it out having never had black before and hearing all the horror stories about swirling I want to get as much crap off as possible before touching it with a wash mitt :D

I find snow foam quite aggressive for regular use. For paintwork that has a reasonable amount of wax/sealant protection remaining a good quality shampoo is normally sufficient.

You're right. You need to go for a ph neutral one and don't be tempted to go too strong with the mix.

Interesting point but as my car has been with Seat UK from new until I bought It last Friday I can pretty much guarantee it has never seen any polish let alone wax, :D
Although it was polished the day I collected and from now on will be cleaned with care so once it has a few layers of wax on may well reduce the snow foam.
Not planning on going mad into detailing I do to many miles for that but also do take pride in having a clean car as far as is practicable :)

I polished and waxed the car by hand for five hours two weeks ago and the car looked really nice! (of course it rained two days later for a week  ) Meguiars product called ultimate quick detailer is absolutley amazing if you have a black car as you use it in the every day life to remove dust and lighter dirt etc and will make the car look freshly detailed :rocker:

Car dont get scratched as dirt is encapulated and somehow is moved away from paint, used it on my last car for 3 years, and can honestly say no scratches as a result of using it, I total understand why peeps are causious about said product, but I can recommend 100%.

I brought some of this stuff and tried it on my current FR which was really quite dirty.

This stuff is amazing it lifted all the dirt and left the car looking amazing with no scratches.

Greased Lightning gets a 10 from Len ;)
