Hello lads,

I own a LCR 04 only had it for 3 months ish.. But ive got a horrible noise when i let off the throttle in 3rd gear and its started happening in 4th gear now. I also get a loud crunch changing down into 3rd, all gears drive fine its just the noise is getting stupid now!

Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? I have already given the car a full service inculding New gearbox oil and slick 50 additive, at the moment I've got it in my head that the gearbox will need to be reconed at a huge cost im sure...

Any advice on other ideas or a cheaper way of sorting it out would be greatly apperciated!!

Just had a quote for a full recon on the gearbox.... £875 exculding VAT and fitting!! :(

Looks like i'm going to have to bite the bullet and do it though, have no choice really.. I like the damm thing to much to give it up !

If anyone knows any other gearbox places i can try in Cambridgeshire area im open to suggestions !

Cheers people

I tried this and put MT90 oil in mine but unfortunately made no difference. Just waiting for a quote now. Suggested I get the gearbox replaced with a reconditioned one. Is the synchromesh replaceable in its self or repaired in someway or is it a new gearbox only that I need?

Think i will have to look into this at some point as i too am having a similar issue, maybe get a group buy or something to the effect to a well known reputable gearbox refurbishing person? Hotgolf springs to mind from CLUBGTI/Edition38, i know he rebuilds 020/02A & 02J boxes but not sure if he would do 02M boxes. Would you guys like to know if this is an option?

I had a recon gearbox put on my LCR about 4 months ago and still have the old one that needs the synchro mesh fixed soni would be interested then I could re sell it on here as a reconditioned box.

I have difficulty selecting 3rd in my TDI sometimes, and suspect it's 3rd gear synchromesh, but hoping it's a linkeage problem. I don't have grinding though, the gear stick just stops about a centimetre short of full 3rd gear, so I have to push it home, which sometimes works, or reselect, i.e. double clutch.
