hi everyone just to throw my penny in had the 2nd to 3rd crunch at high rpm and have just done an oil change on the engine and gearbox changed the oil for redline mt90 and the crunch has gone ill keep you posted if it reapears but first signs are good. mr davies i would definately sugest changing the gear oil as a first fix the oil in your box may have deteriarated to the point of it gets so thin when warm its no longer protecting the gears just a thought

Ok seem to have the same thing as you guys ... only 2nd->3rd at high revs. Seems to be worse after a long journey. Pretty annoying.

Phoned up garage and they quoted £75 for oil change and gearbox oil change, I said I would supply the oil, seem OK?

They seemed a bit concerned I was not using the manufactures specified oil, is this really a probelem, will the Redline mt90 be OK?

Cheers!
Emile.

thats not too bad i suppose i did it all myself quite easy just needed a 14mm allen key for the gearbox drains although i think it may vary. as long as the gear oil meets the requirements of of the manufacturers then i cant see it being a problem oil is oil at the end of ther day.

that gear oil is a part synthetic mrdavies the redline is a fully synthetic and acording to there bottle it doesnt contain reactive sulphur which wear syncros etc could just be a load of crap but id buy something like redline mt90 or the castrol oil alexis27 put up if you do have a problem its worth trying a good oil

hi all, i have been having this problem for the last 9-12 months, then i finally popped down to halfords and picked up a preserver. i ended up changing the gearbox oil with casterol gearbox oil and added the additive slick 50. Ragged the nuts of my car starting and stopping and voila no more gear crunching!

Cheers pal, that's what i hope it is, as the car drives well when i get it in gear, if there was a major problem I'm sure it wouldn't drive at all!

Well after messing around with the shift linkages for about an hour and driving about for a bit I still have no 5th and 6th but reverse works fine as does 1st but engaging 2nd is a bit hit and miss, 3rd and 4th are fine so I'm ok for town driving, just the 5th and 6th are totally none existent, so I'm taking it to a garage that specialise in gearboxes, I called them today and can't get it in until Tuesday, if anyone has any other ideas that would be mega as now I know I'm gonna be spending ££££!!

I got her back from the garage today with a new gearbox fitted and cluch and flywheel as it was all in bits I thought I'd better get this done aswell, in total it cost me £976.00!! but a few things bothere me, 1st thing the clutch pedal mow squeaks, 2nd thing is my wheel alignment is out, I went back to tha garage and they said they will take a look at it next week but the manager said that they would not have touched the tracking, I'm sure this can't be right as before it went to them the tracking was spot on and now driving straight the steering wheel isn't in the middle! Oh well o will see what happens next week!

My 03 Leon Cupra doesn't have any grinding/crunching but does have a little noise in 3rd, almost a whine and seems worse when going 4th to 3rd and letting the clutch out so will be giving the redline mt90 stuff a go.
