Hello to everyone I hope you can help me!I have a problem with my gear box, changing into 3rd while high revs was causing a quick crunch, suddenly its now all the time talking to the local garage the synchromesh has gone £1200 to take the little beauty out and recondition it.Talking to another garage a kind gentleman said that as it was under 5 years old and under 100000 miles Seat might help costs with a good will gesture as they have had problems with this gearbox (03 leon cupra r 225) has anyone else had this go with there cars? Thanks John.

I have this as well done a search seems to be fairly common with Leons !!

I hear changing the Gearbox oil to Redline 75 -w90 really helps

And for the £20 it'll cost to buy the oil it's worth changing just too see it may save you a over a grand :)

If not you haven't lost an awful lot :)

The local garage did advise to change the gear box oil,but after taking the car out he said it needs to be reconditioned.

How many miles has your motor done?
Do you know what oil they changed it for?

I had a crunch when changing from 1st to 2nd in a hurry, switched to Redline MTL and it cured the problem.
Been running with it for nearly 4 years with no problems.

Reckon it's worth a punt for 20 quid although I reckon if it's doing it all the time it my be too late. :(

it's done 83000 miles no clue as to the oil used, but thanks for the feed back,
I'll keep trying until I HAVE to buy a new one.

I have been getting a little crunch for 1st to 2nd for a while now, When i have a service i asked to have the gear box oil changed but was told its long life oil and dont need to be changed? I think i will just insist they change it this time!

Yeah but IMO there's no point in replacing it with the same stuff, the problem probably won't go away.

I did a fair bit of research on t'internet and various different forums (VW, Mazda, Honda, Caterham etc) all rated Redline MTL for curing notchy, crunchy gear changes and it certainly worked for me.
