Astra VXR it will be for you then

The New Leon will be here by then for sure.

Run out Leon models will soon be announced though - maybe you could have one of them. and enjoy as massive depreciation as you will with the Astra

launch of the new leon is may..... next week infact

going by Altea & Toledo Launch date to UK deliveries you'll see the 1st cars at dealerships by September latest

Best start saving the tax-free money fast if you want one as there will be only a handful of pre-reg'd cars in october.

is the new golf gti crap to drive?

if you think so - then the 'new' leon cupra will be too

if you think it might be a better drive - then it'll be better than the golf :)

speculation still on which models get which engines still - but as the FR/Cupra/R models are the ones that almost *only* sell in the UK they'll be mad to go long without something sporty

Good good, have had a go in the new golf gti, really enjoyed it although whilst the interior is exceptionally well made, it feels bland (typical vw) loved the power delivery though!!!

You driven one yet?

How can you honestly be pleased at it's replacement with a vehicle which looks like an MPV.

Given recent history with Altea / Toledo I was nervous that the Leon replacement would be an MPV-stylee vehicle.

I can confirm that (in the flesh), they certainly do not look like MPVs.

They don't look as mean as a CupraR, but then again - neither does a Leon 1.6S.

I will wait until I see one in the "flesh" and the sporty models might look better but I must say it ain't my kind of thing. It's a bit of a departure from the old Leon style isn't it?

Golfs are instantly recognisable model to model but this looks nothing like the old Leon. It's a shame IMHO, because the old Leon would look great with a bit of an update.

This new one is a bit too "mumsy" for me.........

Perhaps its down to VAG not giving SEAT as much of adesign budget as VW or Audi? With more time/budget, then perhaps they are able to design something which encorporates all the safety stuff required whilst keeping the identity of the Golf or A3?

SEAT now seem to have a 'corporate face' which will surely lead to reduced costs for design and production as they now have 3 models which look similar from the front/side and inside. Although not identical, i imagine it must cost less to develop a new model when the basics are already there. I know its not always going to please everyone but my personal opinion is that SEAT will sell more Leon 2's than the original one due to the base models looking more exciting combined with a good chassis and some great engines so will surely appeal to more people. The Cupra will always sell well due to it basically being a Golf GTi with a different badge. Just my thoughts!

New Leon

:-o I was chatting to my mates in SEAT UK, the new LEON FR will be the same engine as the new Golf GTI 200 bhp with 170 TDI unit available in May 2006, the Cupra version (they are dropping the R) will be available in 1/4 four 2006 (November ish) 2006 and will have 240bhp DSG and Paddle Shift [B)] !

That does sound more like it!!

Im trading my Ibiza FR next September when its 2 year old and im seriously thinking about the new Leon Cupra but if the FR is hot enough and the Cupra too expensive the FR it would be.

I would be interested if anyone has changed from the Ibiza to the Leon and what the biggest differences are with the driving performance etc?

I want to like the new Leon, dont want to defect from SEAT...

I know that these new regulations affect design, so why then do Super Cars like Porcshe 911, Ferrari F430, Aston DB9, AMV8 not have to follow them?

They have all kept inline with the design of the models they replace!

I think it is good that these regulations have been fitted to the Leon, but like its been said surely the New Golf and A3 would not have opted out of these regulations and they have kept their general shape!

Dramos - 2 of the cars you've listed have the engines in teh boot - that makes it pretty pedestrian safe......

The Golf & A3 both have the engine located in the same place - and I think you'll see that they all share (inc the new leon) a similar siluette.

I would think that complying with these guidelines would also help to reduce the insurance group of the car perhaps? Also that when buying an everyday car, its deffo something that people have high on their list whereas someone buying a Ferrari or Aston etc buys it for the fact it an Aston or Ferrari, not really how safe it is. I imagine reducing insurance groups is not on the mind of Ferrari etc etc when they design a car either

Yup - normally if you can afford a new Ferrari / Aston then it's your born right to mow people down

lowly SEAT owners have to pay attention to Insurance groups - and not killing pedestrians goes a long way to reducing insurance groups.
