Firstly, excellent work again from Andyb :)

As far as the exterior goes, there's no suprises there as we basically knew what it was going to look like 10 months back.. which was confirmed further when the prototype was unveiled.

The interior however.. oh dear. Don't get me wrong, it could be much worse, but the plastics look of the same quality as those in a MK4 Ibiza.. so therefore there isn't much 'quality' involved. The layout is like a cross between that of the latest Ibiza and the dash in an Altea, which IMO, does help to a degree, as if it were too much like either it'd be bad news! However, look at those horrid seats, and that ugly centre console.. then to anyone out there wanting a decent stereo.. oh dear.. no DIN slots in there - at least with the MK4 Ibiza SEAT learned from their mistakes with the integrated unit on the MK3, and used a standard DIN slot - although the Altea/Toledo use an integrated unit, I was hoping that for the Leon they may have leaned a little towards it's sporty nature and presumed the clientel for such a model would be more likely to swap the stereo than those who buy MPV's and MPV's with big boots.

My thoughts are similiar to yours Syphon - these are the lower end of the range and i guess the 2 petrol models released today are akin to the 1.6 SX and the 1.8 SE of the current range, not the models that brought me to want a Cupra and therefore not for me the best comparison with what i currently own.

The front end does look like the Altea but in the flesh it looks like being more acceptable - its smaller than the current Leon for example. Im not overly sold on the new design but the old version to me is looking tired and in need of a make-over and these are not far away from the prototype to give me confidence that the higher range models will be what i want in about 18 months time.

..to add to my interior comments I've just noticed something..

Look at the switch for the headlights: Is that not identical (bar a lumpy knob  ), to the dire thing in the MK4 Ibiza..? - It's the same cheapo, loose, hollow rattly thing they use in the Ibiza. When we get more pics, if the Leon turns out to use similar gloveboxs, door handles, door cards, boot trim or handbrake as the MK4 Ibiza.. oh and dash.. it's gonna need lots of no-nails to stop the rattles :(

Steering wheel looks quite nice for a 'normal' model though :)

Have a look at Auto Car magazine dated today 19th April.
Compares the Leon Prototype with a current cupra r.
The author stats that the new leon stands out much more but is not as good a drive as the Leon Cupra R!

Bloody journos. NO PROTOTYPE EVER DRIVES LIKE A PRODUCTION CAR! Its in development ha fat oversized tyres and handling hasnt been sorted. Many are just limited to 30-40mph or even have no engines.

Why they still put 1.6 8V engine, not 1.6 Fsi :-o

Why Seat always late with new engines.
Where is 2.0 Fsi Turbo  ?????????
Its shame what VW do with Seat, Skoda have newest engines than Seat :-o .
Why Seat is always in minor position  :hide:

Look at the new Golf though mate, the 2.0 FSI Turbo came out (in the GTi) only recently and how long have the lower range models been out - a year at least. Its done to keep an interest in a newish model, they arent going to show us everything they've got straight away. Skoda only have some newer engines due to them bringing the new Octy out sooner than the Leon.

My fears are as Ian (driveforward) - the dash is looking the same sort of sh1tty plastic affair as my mk4 Ibiza, i pray that in the flesh it looks better and the quality of plastics is 1000 times better than the Ibiza. I dont mind how it looks TBH, the design seems not too bad (apart from the non replaceable HU), just the plastics look very poor.

Depending on prices though, i do think i'll be buying one next year in 2.0 TDI form. Autocar reckons on £18k for the Cupra so it looks like SEAT will perhaps stick with similar prices to the current range all being well. Only time will tell though. Also as already mentioned, lets hope the Sport version gives us the sport seats from the Altea as the ones shown so far dont look very sporty or supportive

Just been thinking about how they might price the cars a bit more. Looking at the Altea 2.0 TDI Sport price which is listed as £16,700 on the SEAT site, do you guys reckon it would be cheaper about the same or more expensive for the 2.0 TDI Sport Leon?

I can only presume it would have to be cheaper. With the Altea supposed to being the more MPV of the range.

Although it seems a bit of a flattened Altea, and, like someone said, mix between Mazda 3 and Alfa 147, looks nice.
Still I think that SEAT could leave the family car role for the Toledo/Altea and deliver a more agressive design to the Leon, since they all look very alike. :thumbd:

Well I know its a base model but I'm very underwhelmed.
The rear I like as thats just blatently a 147 the front I'm not sure about as it it looks waaaay to similar to the Altea etc and from the photo's it looks like they thought..
"shite this is turning into yet another identicial MPV!, quick park a toledo on it and stretch it out a few inches"
I'll wait until Ive seen it in the flesh and hopefully it will look better. Interior is well....nothing really.
