Emissions light has come on and had the code checked and it's due to the EGR valve. The garage quoted me £180-200 for changing it, any ideas what I should be paying for this?

As more of a longshot - anyone receommend a garage in Leicester Area to do it?

Thought about getting an EGR delete? You can get actual delete pipes to physically take it out, and you'll need them to get it delted from the map as well of course. EGR's are a pain in the arse loads of tuning places offer it.

What are the implications of getting this done and associated cost tho? My car is already mapped so am I looking at a re-map to take that into consideration?

Why does it need a new one, can you not just take it off and clean it with carb cleaner which will cost no more than £10 and take about an hour. Its an easy job for any one to do. Alternatively look at dark side development for the egr delete kit, think it costs about £90 but will bring a light on the dash. You need to remap to get rid of this so I guess you will have the extra cost for that also and to ensure you keep it running like you have it now. I would explore the first option if I were you

I have no idea mate - i know very little about engines. A light came on, i took it to a man. he said the EGR caused it and would need replacing. He made the light go away for a day and it came back.

I wouldn't know where to start finding the EGR let alone cleaning it (but i'm happy to have a go if i can't mess it up)

What model and engine do you have. I know very little myself but the egr was easy on mine

I think you actually have to have it mapped out. I have the 07 plate version of yours so will probably be identical. I'll try uploading some pics or a link

Ignore the bit about the gasket at the bottom, if its in good condition you can just reuse the old one.

I was talking more about turning the light off after cleaning the EGR and for general fault checking

Mj is the guru and will probably know, will the light go out by itself if the egr is cleaned and fully functional again

cheers guys will take a proper look at this later with the bonnet open!

I take it it's probably worth me getting that code reader in MJ's post anyway seeing as it cost me about that to get it checked at the garage.
