Cost of EGR valve replacement?

Nice one - i've invested in the Code reader anyway as like you said, it should serve me well rather than being at the mercy of random garages.

This weekend I'm going to have a rummage around in the engine to see if I can get the EGR off. Think i'm going to try the clean and replace option first, if not then the darkside delete seems like a good option for £75, just the invonvenience of having to get the EGR taken off the map. Would I need to go back to the same place I got the map done to get them to tweak it?

Didnt I read somewhere the delete will be an MOT emissions fail once the new regulations are brought in?
Or am I confusing an EGR delete with a DPF delete?
Eitherway, just flagging it up for the sake of the OP.

What's your mileage? The mk2's rarely clog up as much as the old ones. Google "cleaning EGR" and you'll have loads of methods. Personally I'd remove it & learn to live with the pointless EML. Then get it mapped of when you get the chance. When I've had mine off I'd use brake cleaner and various scrapers, wire brushes and clothes to clean it.

Just over 70k now I think... I don't know if I have a mild dashboard OCD but the EML is what is doing my head in and the purpose of me getting this sorted is to get rid of it.

I know what you mean about deleting it but it's an extra £75 to get the delete pipe from darkside whereas removing it and cleaning it seems like the budget option (especially considering that the garage suggested i just buy a new one)

Hmm I might be completely wrong and I've never had a EGR, first thing I done, infact before I put my 170 lump in it was gone lol, but I havnt herd many EMLs due to it being blocked at 70k I thought it'd be more electrical some where down the line... Try clean it first, or get it read to see what the issue is?

Or... Can you get it mapped out but leave it there?

what would you recommend for cleaning it though? see lots of mention of carb cleaner but need it to be something i can buy retail tomorrow as I wanna get this sorted out over the weekend
I used carb cleaner from toolstation. was about 3 quid off the shelf. used one and a bit cans but did intake aswell. Buy lots of rubber gloves as it is awful stuff, wear two or three pairs at once, it's very potent and will eat through plastic if left on too long.

Do it outside in a bowl or something. also get a small wire brush, I got one from toolstation whilst I was there. was about the size of the tip of a finger. Ive added them below.

carb cleaner

gloves

brush

Definately wear goggles cos it goes everwhere.

I sprayed the cleaner and let it soak for a bit, agitated with a toothbrush and scraped any large bits of carbon with screwdriver or the wire brush. Repeat as necessary, it takes a bit of time but is worth it.

Be conscious of the rubber ring seal sat in the lip on one end, pop it out so the carb cleaner doesn't eat it.

Ok well i've ordered a code reader anyway so first thing i'll do is check the code and hopefully one of you extremely knowledgable guys will be able to tell me if it sounds like a failing or blocked EGR.

I would say its just clogged up. Have it off and clean it
The images of mine above were only after 30k from new and no fault codes

Ok so I took it all off, cleaned it and put it all back on again - no running extremely smoky with little/no turbo. Any ideas? Does it just need to be run for a bit?
