Not an unheard of VW phenomenon. One of the older marks of Golf (I've lost track how many there have been) was known for winding its windows down when it felt like it and not every case could be attributed to the owner sitting on the keys or such like.

Several posts on the AtecaForums dating from 2016 about windows spontaneoulsy opening when the key is out of range. Might be crosstalk from other radio sources, or a software fault, but I was under the impression the vehicle systems powered down, and that would have prevented this happening.

My Leon Mk3 opened up it's window once, we were very confident that it was not our doing as I passed alongside the car several times without noticing the window open (and I usually check out the car).

In the end, I did some kind of "window open calibration" thing as I read it might be that the car thinks it's trapped someone. Didn't happen again and I sold the car couple of months ago.

I know it's not very useful for the Formentor.

is there an option like my last Golf R had ,i think it was convenience opening or something where you can disable it in the menu ?

The virtual tight pants syndrome. I think a lot of the Ateca ones were guys with tight pants keeping their keys in their pockets and lounging around at home. The solution to that was to set convenience opening and closing off.

In your case it was a random signal. Leon 4 manual calls that the "Convenience close function windows". So toggling to off would probably suspend all windows dropping. The re locking will have been auto locking if no door opened. In hot climates in Europe drivers returning back to the car bang on the door open button, long hold and they all fall down together before they get to the car. That's a long press on the remote open button.... hence the tight pants syndrome or virtual 😉.

There was a one month or so production issue on the Ateca in 2016 when the motorised tailgate opened by itself. Mine fell into that one of duff programming of the control unit but never opened on its own but didn't work either. Had to be changed and re-coded after delivery. That was a known build issue that went on for a month.

Formentor and Leon 4 seem troubled with system coding issues of random bus data.... last theory the sun particle burst 😍.🤣

I reckon you will find a toggle in the menu to turn off convenience opening / closing... we don't get hot weather here. That will probably stop the windows all going down together.

This page in the Formentor manual. Need to go into here to toggle off for peace of mind (that's what the Ateca people bugged by this then did):

I don’t buy the random interference theory, communications are security encoded and there will be a checksum to verify the data.

More likely it’s a rare software bug either in the vehicle or one of the keys (can it operate from the safe?).

There was at least one report in this forum of a Formentor lighting up in the night, perhaps it was due to a similar issue?

Out of curiosity, did your mirrors also unfold (just to see if it followed the exact function as expected when holding down the unlock button)?

Yes they did unfold i could see it on the camera...and as the door was not opened ,they folded and it locked again soon after...

I was just being polite about interference far from me to say they are rubbish 😉. Clearly the list of VCDS errors generated by these cars are exceptional as reported here, so they defy the main diagnostic tool.

Not an unlock function on the app ? which got randomly toggled. May be they aren't using very good parity checking on their data given all the issues and garbage that seems to slips thru to trigger errors.

Windows down and car unlocking means it's received a long press to open instruction one way or another if easy open is set... even by aliens 😉.

It does fall inline with the 2016 Ateca complaints but I've always thought it's guys not taking the keys out of their pocket, the solution to stop the windows dropping and staying down when it happens is the one above. I've kept mine on convenience opening since it's never happended to me. Auto locking ís because the doors self lock if not opened after a given period if the door isn't opened. That's an added security thing.
