Can you get the steering wheel buttons to change radio presets instead of random channels?!

Apologies if this is simple, but I've only had the my 2017 1.4tsi a week and although I like a good read of the manual/s, I simply cannot find any page that tells me how to change the above, and it seems bonkers that that is the only option, or the only way it can be??!

At present, if you press the left/right buttons on the steering wheel above the volume roller, instead of what I expected to happen from literally every other post millennium car I've owned, that it would happily scroll through the 6 preset radio stations I've stored in bank one, it just chooses to select the next station on the enormous list of DAB stations the car has managed to scan and find in general! So to change presets, I'm having to take my eyes of the road momentarily to check I'm hitting the right bit of the touchscreen. It's like the 90s all over again.

Can this be changed, cos I've never had a modern stereo that does this on the steering wheel buttons?

Hmm. I take my eyes off the road or ask the co-driver to put R4 on for the news 😂 or LBC News for the rant. Depends which day. The buttons on the steering wheel do change tracks and pause on any music on an SD card / usb. Must say I haven't fiddled with the button too much on radio. You can get extra favourite radio stations stored by swiping to the left / right on the screen.

Yeah, swiping to get the extra banks of stations is handy, but not being able to control those preset stations from the steering wheel when there's buttons right there is ludicrous.

Why would they design a system that makes the buttons choose stations you haven't set to listen to, especially when there's soooo any DAB channels that you could flick from radio 4 to Gaydio to Heart Country to Kids fm. Absolutely pointless!

Well now everything is done on the screen which is causing much muttering on newer Vag cars. The A/C and fan etc. They have stepped back on mib4 on some newer models just arriving to give a bottom button to get at the heat and a/c controls which isn't / is multi function. Reckon it's multi function. So all of those twiddly control you have got on your Ateca are now on the screen on other Cupras models. Pet hate with reviewers and drivers.

Yup, that sucks. So many issues with the Ford Tourneo (my previous car) which is a reshape VW Caddy. Ford don't know how to fix the infotainment faults, so I know people who've been sent to vw to fix it and vw aren't interested cos it's not their car!

Just to close this off and for anyone else's benefit, thanks to @stu_m ...the option to change this IS in the settings, it's under Seek mode. Strange that the possibly less usable version is the factory default.
