I'm pretty sure both chips run BEYOND the knock limit, and then the ECU retards the timing. If this wasn't the case then your timing would never retard and you wouldn't benefit from higher Octane fuel.

As an aside, did you know that if your car isn't at the point of knocking then igher octane fuel will actually make the car SLOWER! I posted a link to a petrol-chemical website that explains it all somewhere, but i can't find it at the moment... I have posted it on here before though if you want to search for it.

Cheers

REVO ECU

when mine tops out it still has around 10psi of boost! Just nothing.

P.S. I have a standard ecu now and problems see thread to help HERE

Its interesting that shock E has got 10PSI of boost when he hits the brick wall, makes me think even more that its timing retardation as a result of heat soak.

BenS1,

Im sure the tuners do not configure the maps to run constantly past the knock limit.
They may run past the knock limit in extreme conditions (hot inlet temps). Engines will not last long if this is the case.

Even a small amount of knock can kill an engine very quickly and knock sensors are far from %100 accurate at detecting knock.

Knock sensors are used as a last resort to stop the engine going bang#

Regarding the octane rating, there is no way higher octane can make your car slower. Please explain?? Im sure max torque will come along and explain this one!

i dont give a **** about private roads if i see a ctr i want to spank it all the way to 150 never mind 130

but with the bigger spike down low u are so far infront by the time u hit 130, 150 doesnt realy matter, and tbh imho you spend alot more time sub 130 than you do 130+

Tried low boost 7, timing 6 last night as per advice. 0-80 was still very swift indeed but 110-120+ it was still bogging down.

Doesn't feel like heatsoak or retardation to me....perhaps my MAF is on the way out and it doesn't really show itself up until more is asked of it.

The lack of traction in 1st 2nd and sometimes third is just compounded by high boost spike, any initial gain you think you have is lost in excessive wheelspin, and when you do need the power when traction is gained boost is gone.

I think it would be worth it to take advantage of mods list, especially if you are considering another turbo!

looks like i started a trend!

Indeed :D

I'm watching the E05 updates with keen interest, tempted just to buy one anyway as the pound is so strong right now.

Revo are looking this route also, so maybe wait till then as it would be cheaper as you are already a revo customer! I have read elsewhere that the kit is complete on the golf and is ready for sale in the coming weeks so the ibiza should be very close/same!

The E05 is £900 after everything and this doesnt include the uprated injectors, FPR, modded air intake, uprated turbo intake, downpipe, fitting etc.... so could work out very expensive!!!

Hence Im going the K03s route with uprated turbo intake which has cost me only £200 in parts and should see anywhere 'upto' 250bhp

'Wait'? I'll go look that one up... :)

Patience is a virtue gentlemen :D

Its not far off, you'd rather they get it right than sell something that may not perform aswell as it could.

I do believe REVO are on the list for the RR day tho ;)
