Just a different tangent ... is the car DECAT?
Hi all. I'm a newbie on here but I've used this site for loads of little probs with my car and you've all been extremely helpful.
I too have blue smoke from my 2002 cupra but wasn't anywhere near as bad as it is since I changed to a 3" decat?? Had engine management light on already for secondary air pump, could this be causing it?
Love my seat and its been on my list for a long time. Done a few mods and ready for remapping but gutted it's now smoking.
Start up, big puff of blue. Cold engine, fine. Warm engine, smokes everytime you pull away. Coasting, can see smoke in rear window?? I've got a tiny amount of oil in fmic pipes??? I'm not a mechanic but I'll fix it if I can. Lol

You could make sure the PCV system is ok, but it sounds like it's the valve stem oil seals. I have the same issues with my 2002 AUQ now and again, if so then the only solution is to get the cylinder head rebuilt.

Thanks for your reply mate. Went to a mechanic today who had a quick look and put it down to valve stem seals but could be turbo or oil breather.
Have you got any idea on price to fix it if it is valves? I'm not minted but do what I can

No worries, i'm not really sure on prices tbh. A large part depends on if you are removing the head yourself, or paying the engine shop to do it?

Either was make sure you get a reputable place to do it though. There are countless 'rip off' engine places, where they will wreck your motor fitting some **** head they found in a scrapyard somewhere.

As for the secondary air, it only works during start/warm up, so it won't be related imo.

Thanks. Sounds like it'll be expensive!
Think it will last a bit without killing everything else? Don't want to see another leon get broken up. Even the missus likes the car, and that is saying something!!
Thanks for all your help

You could go to a scrap yard and grab a head from there ? £100 for head, £100 for someone to fit it and £100 ISH for cambelt kit. Or you could go the other way and get a 500hp ready head for £500.
