Beginer Bufty!! Help/Advice

Hi Everyone!

Just a quick one, I've had my LCR for a few months now, but aside from a wash every week or two it's been getting a touch neglected polishing wise.

I feel bad as with the previous owner it was extremely pampered (even featured in a Maguires advert haha)

Anyway... Looking at old photos had motivated me to get it nice and shiny again, however I've never polished a car in my life!!

Without going too mental, what equipment/products will i need to get going?

Shampoo, Polish, Wax and a clay bar?

To start out I would be looking at a beginers DA polisher like a DAS-6 by kestrel, great bit of kit and near impossible to do damage with if your decontamination process is thorough. I advise signing up to detailingworld, there's never ending advice and enough pictures to get you motivated and no doubt hooked on detailing

Cheers for the reply!! Yeah, bit of a double edged sword that one... I kinda don't want to get hooked on detailing, although I fear that I may haha!! I just feel I owe it to the car more than anything!

Dodo is very reputable, I personally am a bit of a poorboys world fanatic, chemical guys are also worth a look as far as polishing goes menzerna do brilliant polishes and will get you a good result every time

Going to get expensive this isn't it!!

Could do with knowing which steps I need to do, and which I can add in later if anyone could help me out?

So far I've decided to get a DA machine polisher as posted above, I figure it needs a wash, then going over with a clay bar, then polish, then wax.

Is that an alright method?

Obviously can add stuff in as I increase my product collection

Basically that's correct, I'll give you a very brief run down of my 6 monthly procedure which is my main correction detail

Clean wheels
4 step degreaser/prewash/snow foam/rinse
Shampoo using 'two bucket method'
Rinse
De-ironiser (Iron X)
De tar (tardis)
Clay bar
Rinse
Heavy cut polish
Medium cut polish
Finishing polish
Glaze
Synthetic sealant
Wax
Treat glass
Treat plastics
Wheel sealant
Tyre dressing

Stand back and admire

Yeah it takes about 2-3 days lol!

I would say go for

Wash
Clay
All in one Polish
Glaze
Wax

Nice and simple and easily do able in a day

So what does a glaze do that a polish and a wash don't do? lol

And is the polish/glaze/wax, are each of those something that require you going over the whole car with the machine polisher?

The polish you would work in by machine to remove swirl marks and light scratches, glaze is applied by machine using a softer pad at a slower speed and fills in stuff that you missed when polishing (sort of) also gives a nice shine, wax seals everything in and protects your hard work

Ah right, so once I'd waxed it, I should be able to get a few 'normal' washes out of it with it still looking that nice?

Gonna end up a full blown bufty, aren't I lol

Depends on your definition of a normal wash, fairy liquid is a no no as is the local jet wash as they will both undo your hard work. After a good polish etc if you take care and wash properly you shouldn't really need to repolish for 6 months or so, a top up with wax is recommended every 1 or 2 months though

Last thing I hope... is the stuff in the dodo juice kit above okay to use with a DAS-6 machine polisher or are some better for hand and some better for machine?

Do any of you see anything that is missing from that kit?

None of them re really suitable for use with the DAS 6, they are all hand application. It's still a good kit though! I would suggest buying this as well as the dodo kit
