I've been doing some research and gathering some more info on a 1.8T engine conversion to my 1.4 ibiza.

From what i have worked out I belive that the std 239mm hub carriers with built in calliper cariers can be kept. Instead the 4 stud hub can be pressed out from the 1.4 and swaped for a 2l 16v 4 stud hub to accomadate the larger spline size. Therefore being able to use the larger CV and drive shafts???

I am corect in assuming this as the wheel bearings listed are the same for all cars mentioned.

Not that i plan to keep the 239mm brakes or anyhing

the wheel bearings are the same, and are 'swappable' with 1.8T driveshafts

however - the design of the casting is totally different

The 239mm brakes have a cast 'prong' that the pads rest in - whereas the 256mm+ girling brakes have a 'bolted' on part - that can be replaced

I'll get an image this weekend as I need to swap my hubs from one type to the other again...

Yeah i know what u mean.

I wasnt very clear with my description.

I meant if i wanted to keep the std upright with built in pad carrier eg 239mm setup. And to be able to use the bigger drive shafts and cv would i have to change the wheel hub to the 16v one?

I sent you a pm with the diagram.

Cheers mate.

I was under the impression that the spline on the outer cv to hub was bigger on the 1.8T/16v. Dunno why i thought that must of been the bigger cv/drive shafts, me thinking all was bigger.

Another quick question....

Wil the std 1.4 clocks work with the 1.8T ecu or do i require the clocks that were orginally tagged to the 1.8T engine?

Just looking at vag com on how to swap ecu/imobiliser. I take it the mk3 and mk2 has Immobilizer 2 so should be a straight swap?

One other thing i take it i need the keys too.

Cheers mate sorry all the questions just gathering a list of all the parts i need, pretty much know what subframe/cross members/cv/driveshafts i need.

On the Mk3 I think the Immo code is in the clocks, whereas on the Mk2 it's a seperate unit.

best bet is clocks, ecu & loom from the donor car - then still immo defeat the ECU - but retaining fully functioning clocks.

Saves re-locking your car which isn't a major job, but would be a pain.

So what ur saying is i can keep the std 1.4 keys but just immo defeat the ecu so i can use them.

just if you havea 16v, you could use that box (and save on the hydraulic conversion)

but if you have an 8v, you may as well make the effort 1st time around.

I was talking bout the keys

I know i would have to convert to hydraulic box as i would have to use an 02a or a 02j will there be a cut already in the bulk head for the pipework?

the firewall is riddled with holes already - so there will be one you can use to poke the clutch line through (and then grommet)

i've finally got my self a cupra sport gti but had to settle for an 8v model, i am ofpresuming that all i need to bolt a 20v turbo lump in is a 16v subframe is this all or will i need different mounts from othe models?
