Over there
A few have been done over the years, not one that posts on this forum that I know of though except for a nice chap called Roly.

I'm seriously tempted to do the conversion on mine when I bring it off the road next year. The key questions you've got to ask yourself are (in my opinion); are you capable of doing the install yourself or the atleast the majority of the main things? do you have friends that can help you out? do you want the car to be reliable? are you willing to throw a lot of cash at it (if you don;t earn a lot like me lol).
Also beware that if you aren't the most upbeat/enthuiastic person the conversion might take you a long time :p as with any car project though !

Like I said though If I decide to go through with it the car would only be a 2nd car (or toy in otherwords) as then I can goto town on the little sucker :D

Plus mk2 ibiza 20vt kept looking standard'ish will be a right sleeper out on the road ;) most people will assume just a shabby old 1.8-2.0n/a but when you wind the boost on bye bye :D :D :D

Just my 2p.

And while we are on the subject of this perhaps the more informed people could suggest the best way of doing the conversion..... eg. get a crashed mk3 ibiza and transfer bits over or try and get engine of sommet like an LCR and try and make it fit (just how big is the 6sp g'box). You get the idea just throw some ideas/suggestions about

6 Speed gearbox fouls the chassis leg, so you'll need to cut a lot of that out. - which is a pain, since that's also where the engine mount is required.

the only thing i'd be worried about chopping the chassis leg about is retainint the structural strength, but i'm sure it is able to be over come, would prob stay with a 5 speed box for now,

5 speed is better in the ibiza anyway - leave the 6 speed to the pipe smokers in the Leon

why not a 16vt ?

bolt in easier - and for the extra work power per pound overall aint far off tuning a 20vt anyway

in fact shop about and pick up the right bits its actually a lot cheaper

i've carried out this conversion and don't regret it in the slightest

it also worked out cheaper than buying a 20vt so it's not always the case of costing more to do a conversion it depends on what yor doing it to and what you can sell on

i started with a 2.0 16v as the base car so subframe and engine mounts were the same, only major things i had to do was rewiring front and rear lights, cut bulkhead to make way for hydraulic clutch and replace fuel lines

i bought the 20vt as a complete car on ebay for £1500 (it had a front ender and was a cat C writeoff but luckily hadn't damaged anything past the rad)

stripped the whole car in 2 weeks (to a bare shell) and then set about the 16v, i had it stripped and running the 20vt lump within a week, took another 2 to get the whole car finished but in 3 weeks i had a fully legal and registered with dvla MK2 20vt

i managed to sell all the 16v parts on ebay and now the conversion stands me in my own labour time and no money (im actually £500 in pocket from selling the unwanted parts)

im currently in the process of finishing the fmic for it and after 5k miles and almost 6 months it's still running sweet

Also did you use the dona car loom is that why you had to re-wire the lights front and rear?

cheers

more of a ball ache, you need the front subframe, definately a different gearbox, driveshafts, hubs as well as the obvious.

Would a mk2 gti cs 8v (agg) be just as easy to convert as a late 16v ?
Are there any major differences between the 8v and 16v mechanically is my question........ (apart from the engine and box ;) )

I think engine wise roly is running a remapped k03 from a mk3 ibiza with fmic and thats about it. and he used the loom from the donor car.
thats what I can roughly remember from his original conversion thread on another site.

spec is as follows

standard MK3 ibiza AYP engine
unknown remap (already done before i bought donor car)
scorpian cat back system
modded airbox with green panel filter and mahoosive cold air feed taken from n/s front fog
N249 bypassed
forge recirc valve
forge tip
laguna fmic all re worked with 2" pipework throughout

it was rr'd at big boys toys earlier this year on a mobile rr so figures are prob way out but it managed 222bhp with just map, zorst and a k&n induction kit with no heatshiled or cold air feed

i used complete mk3 loom and just rewired the plugs that didn't match (basically all the lights)

1.4 would be more work as m0rk has said

8v cupra should be same as the 16v as subframe and mounts should be the same
