And the lack of garages / mechanics who can do the work to fix them so cost of loan car is adding to the bill as well

Knowing my luck I'll find out it's already mapped, given it started its life as a fleet car and had 80k on it by the time it was 3 years old and I bought it in 2008. Unless all PD150s are unusable in first gear and there's that much torque out of the box, in which case, more of that, please.

I'm dreading my insurance this year. It's still pretty low, around £250, but I've had to pay something like £45 for IAM membership to get it at that price, so god knows why I bother.

Fleet car wont be mapped also first gear has always been useless even when mapped, only issue i have with the PD is the floppy gearbox and first gear especially after driving old school hot hatches but the torque makes up for that even after owning a R5 GTTurbo and that was phase one chipped yet i still miss that, man that turned you into an obsessive lunatic hunting cars to race, bloody loved it lol what a car, yet sold it in 90s with 44k on it and you want to see the price of a mint one now grrrr

I was born at the wrong time. I never got to buy (or more accurately, insure) a proper '90s hot hatch, and now they cost way too much for what they are.

At least the new clutch is in. Saw the old one and it had plenty of life in it, but it was the original one with 165k on it. I'm looking forward to stalling it regularly now the biting point is in the middle of the pedal instead of about a centimetre from the top.

Scratching my head after it started clunking after going down a bumpy road. Defo sounds like the exhaust and you could hear it clear as a bell with the window down.

Poked around underneath yesterday (literally - with a pole) and could find nothing.

Today went on a 75 mile journey and not a single noise. Absolutely perfect.

Proper confusing

Just found this on YouTube..... nice bit of leon action
If we all get together on the track, then we could probably just about make up a multicoloured pack like that 😁
Unfortunately some of you would be lapping a few of us pretty quickly though 😉

I think we should do some sort of meet at a track day. Even just to meet like minded friends.
Can I please come and bring my MK3.

You can actually hire the race track if people were interested in a safe day out on the track but as you say if there is a track day then the tracks are normally open for any car to be there you just cant go out on the track unless you have paid to do so.

Didn't think this was a big enough issue to start a whole thread, but over the past couple of months when I turn the ignition to start the car, I've got this intermittent fault where nothing happens.

I'd say that 7/10 times it starts fine, but other times it just does nothing. It doesn't even try.

If I turn the key back, it'll start fine, but I don't fancy being a long way from home or in a hurry when the car decides this is a permanent issue.

Haven't scanned for codes and I know that's the first thing I should have done, but scanning tends to drain the battery for some reason, so thought I'd check here first.

Scanning drains your battery? It's weird. I use a laptop with VCDS and only takes 4 minutes to do a full scan. How long does your takes?

And when the car does nothing doesnt light up the immobiliser on the dash?

It might just be the old battery being temperamental - I had it in the car about six years too long - I'll try with the new battery. I've got VDCS Lite with a K-Line cable, and it's always had a bit of trouble - either it gives you a result straight away, or it tries to scan for ages and goes through the scary airbag module test four times etc. Then when I try to start the car, the battery was flat.

All the usual lights go out as usual - immobiliser, glow plug etc. and the battery and check engine lights do their usual thing. Nothing seems wrong, the lights don't dim, but obviously there's something going on.

While I think on that, decided to sort the pollen filter. At least it was doing its job.
