what have you done to your car today ?

For once it's not the car that's giving me headaches, but the running costs. Because I'm lucky enough to live in Brighton, I've just had the price of my parking permit go from £130 to £175 in the space of a year.

It's not that I can't afford it, but paying nearly half the value of the car on permits, insurance and vehicle tax, not to mention the price of fuel and, well, it might be the time to sell...
Wont you miss all of 'the attention' you get when you're working on it outside your girlfriend's house?

Should have replaced these parts when they were still available!

Looks like I've found my next job to do.

Mine seem OK at the moment, so I'm hoping it's just a matter of wire brushing them before Hammerite or similar.

A few months ago, someone shared a thread about a TT restoration where they used a certain type of paint I've been meaning to try since I heard about it. The finish looked really good. Does anyone remember what the stuff was?

I was fortunate to track down some brand new genuine rear splash plates and on the front I dug out some decent used ones and stripped them right back before getting them powder coated which now look like new ones anyway.

Was that the red TT QS?
I’m getting some febi ones for now so I can get these cleaned up and powder coated as they are discontinued.

That's the one. Mine might be too degraded to get the satin smooth finish they got, but it's the nicest thing when you get under you car to have parts that are clean and free of rust.

I'm pretty sure it's getting the car through the MoT too - every test they comment on the work I've done and the time I must have put in for it to be still on the road, so good looking discs are a good, cheap psychological win.

Also are Mtec discs ok? Heard mixed reports - front and rear for fast road driving no track days.

Absolutely fine mate, I have them on mine and had them on numerous breakers.
Pretty decent for the money tbh.
My front discs are coming off though as I have a pair of Godspeed 330mm 2 piece discs to go on instead.

I was looking at those and wondered if it was worth the extra to go c hook 2 piece?

I have some dynamic indicators coming, hopefully get that done and plastidip the grill surround at the weekend.

Plastidip which part of the grill?
I did extensive plastidiping of grills and badges etc few years back.
I would never do grills again.
If you’re seasoned at it
You’ll know why. Good luck ck

If not and you want any pointers I’d be glad to offer some.
Or check my build thread.

Depends what you do with the car.
They are good.
Disperse heat better and coupled with decent pads they are great stoppers.
Will be testing on track in the next month with luck. So will know more.
Negative is they cost the earth.
So for the road it’s not really necessary tbh. Plenty of decent discs around for half the price.

They're not cheap mate but I poached mine from a breaker so cost me nowt.
What impressed me the most was the fact at how flipping light they are compared to stock 1 piece discs.

Will get some on order then. Just want to confirm the rears are right as the c hook look like non vented at the back and there’s no size to check it’s 256mm.
