Formentor System Errors

Mine lasted 4 months, forced them to have it back and went for a BMW, car was a disgrace, 6 days later wife’s Ibiza 9 months old, screen went blank lost sat nav, phone, radio etc. needless to say we got shot of her new car too. Me and my wife ended up buying 4 new cars in 9 months. Never go back to Seat/Cupra again.

I hoped I wouldn't be joining the club of pissed off Formentor drivers but after 10 days I have.

Been waiting on a call from customer car for 4 days, keep getting told they'll phone by close of business but then I get an email saying sorry we'll phone you tomorrow and the cycle repeats.

Got sod all faith in this car.

I've had the "Error: drive system" twice. First time a week after getting the car in December, and 2nd time at the start of March. When I turned the car off and on it disappeared mind you. Is your warning on permanently?

Dealer told me it was probably down to the software needing upgraded and nothing mechanical. From your pics it looks like your software is either 1890 or 1896, so if it is software related it looks like they haven't resolved this issue with the latest updates.

My car went in for the 1896 software last Tuesday as well as a rattle which hasn't been resolved. Like yourself called dealer on Thursday to inform them that the rattle is still there with no response from them, and tried again on Friday again with no response.

No, mine comes and goes. After it intially happened, shut down the car and it cleared, scanned the OBD port and it came up with two issues to do with the engine (and an absolute tonne of others to do with others systems) both related to oil pressure sensors. If they were knackered parts I would have expected them to not disappear on a reset of the ignition. Second time it came on I was driving on a dual carriageway and it was definitely hesitant to accelerate, would have said it was almost a limp mode but it allowed me to speed up to a sensible speed for a dualler. AA were sent out by Cupra, he scanned the car and it was clear although both the codes I found were logged in the history and he sent that on to Cupra. He drove the car and said it was ok but reckoned it was best to get it scanned fully by a dealer. Dealer in Aberdeen can't look at it for a fortnight.

I'm having to drive it as I don't have access to another vehicle and can't work permanently from home. Told Cupra to give me a loan car or I'll have to run it.

I'm on the latest version of the software.

I'm hoping mine doesn't come back. If it does I'll be calling Cupra Assist and getting them to take it to the dealer and asking for a nice Cupra courtesy car from Enterprise. When mine went in last Tuesday they said it had logged error codes but they cleared them, checked the car and they never came back so assume it was a software issue. It is a bit concerning that you are on 1896 software and getting the issue. What model and engine is your Formentor?

If you've told Cupra you have to drive it and they haven't given you a courtesy car, and something happens to yours I'd be holding Cupra liable for all repairs and even be tempted to reject the car.

Mines a 2 litre 245ps. I'm fairly sure it's a faulty sensor rather than a software problem so mine probably won't go away until they investigate if the sensor is goosed.

You have a different engine than me, so probably rules out a common fault, unless it could be an oil pressure sensor that is shared throughout the range.

After checking the fault code it does appear the sensor is common to many different engines over the last 10+ years.

Think there are the mib3 issues then the wider MQB Leon 4 / Formentor issues. There aren't that many mib3 complaints on the board outside the Leon 4 / Formentor side which suggests the issues are in the newer systems of the MQB platform. So there is the preoccupation of the mib3 firmware release but that might not be the solution. Possibly a good dusting down of the others. Reckon the SOS bang would be fixed outside of the mib3 firmware...

Really interesting to read the common issue with formentor.

I regularly have an issue with reversing sensors, and today it was sensors, Manoeuvre braking and the Error Emergency Call. I’ve done nearly 10k miles now, so due a service pretty soon.

No centre console, media etc working either.

Did the Dealership come up with any answers?

1896 one for mib3 and all the fixes but dictated by ODIS


Fixes seem to be being rolled out for the earlier models. At the mercy of the roll out.

Do any Formentor owners have a Dashcam fitted that have Parking Mode active and are powered directly from the Car Battery only for Parking Mode via the OBD socket?

If like me you do then you may get the faults I have been getting. The Dashcam setup I use worked fine in my Leon Cupra 300 as the systems on that vehicle were not a massive drain on the Car Battery.

My Dealer has told me that due to the amount of gadgets on the Formentor, my Dashcam is draining the battery which is causing systems to show faults due to low battery power.

I have just purchased a dedicated Dashcam Battery which I will be installing once it arrives. This battery charges when the car is running and then is used for Oarking Mode, so no drain on the cars systems.

Hopefully this will sort out the issues I have (any inform others of the issue)and I’ll confirm later when the Battery is fitted.

Hi. I bought Mio Mivue front and rear cameras for my Formentor VZ 310, and the Mio "Smart Box III" to hard wire them in order to use "Parking" mode. I just spoke to my local Cupra service centre, and they strongly advised against any form of hard-wiring in a Formentor, due to electrical issues that would almost certainly arise! Looks like my only option is to use the cigarette lighter as the power supply, obviously then unable to use "Parking" mode!

Use a fuse tap for the power - that way you don't hard wire in to the loom - you just take the power from a permanent live fuse.

Not sure if this applies to my MiVue Smartbox - it has a wire to connect to an "always on" fuse (e.g. for hazard warning lights) and a wire to connect to an "ignition on" fuse (e.g. for indicator lights), as well as a wire to ground.

Further to my comment above, having looked in the owner's manual re the 2 fuse boxes, I cannot see any reference to either hazard warning lights or indicator lights.

That I don't know.

Easiest way is to pull a fuse and measure across it - pretty sure one of the dimensions you listed will match a fuse from the formentor.

And yes - you are correct - your red or yelllow go in to the blue connector.

The standard fuse then plugs in to the lower slot to protect the circuit as normal.
A new fuse goes in to the top slot to protect your added wires.

Hi - I'm new here and joined this forum as I've got exactly the same issue. I've taken the car to local dealer who advise that the 5F gateway control module has failed - its module that checks all the safety systems on start up and its "fused". Part not available on back order and will be expedited. No courtesy car available so they have said that i will have to collect the car and take it back when part comes in. Leaving aside that the car is 3 weeks old, my real issue here is all the saftey systems are disabled, no heater control, no phone connectivity, just basic function of speedo/ RPM. Ive complained to lease company who said complain to Cupra customer service who said complain to the dealer who in turn said complain to Seat Finance - to say that im peeved is understatement, ive come from Mercedes to this and its a **** show - im cancelling the car which is a shame as it drove nice and is comfy

Hey guys!

I'm due to pick up my VZ2 310 tomorrow from my local Cupra dealership. Its a late 2020 build.

Clearly there have been substantial issues with the system/interface since launch, but I don't see any comments over the past six months.

Would any veterans be able to let me know whether the software issues have been largely resolved now? And is there any advice you'd give a novice such as me when I go to pick it up tomorrow? I have a two year warranty with it, but am keen to do what I can to mitigate hassle down the line!

Alot of issues have been solved yes although it's still not as slick as it should be. We certainly don't get the system completely shutting off randomly anymore but Android auto does have a habit of just crashing every now and then
